Hi there,
here are some pictures of my very first mod. I had my sister draw a dragon for me, which I put on the window. Chose red because I thought it was a nice color and I think it worked out nice...
I made the hard-drive bay myself and put it on the front of the case. That was before I noticed that there was virtually no room for my hard drive wiring... Sow fitting the drives in the bay and connecting them was hard work. The fan at the front is cooling my three hard drives...
I didn't paint my monitor because it belongs to my roommate and he doesn't want me to spray it:(

for those interested, the system I'm running is:
AMD K6-II 500 MHz processor
188 MB SDRAM memory
on-board video and sound
and a massive 470 GB storage capacity:D
and yes... I'm using it as a file server, and nothing more;)

thats some kicka$$ wire management for a first mod, fair play, I love the idea of the red lighting with a dragon, thats prob coz im welsh ;-) lol. But i must say i like it alot. If you could give reputations on this board id give you one. But that case would look 500 times better if you sprayed the inside of the case black. Do that and you have one hell of a mod.

I'm not sure if I should... The lighter background reflects the light a bit, I don't know if it looks nicer when it is sprayed black. but if you're sure it would look a lot cooler, i might spray it black some time.

spray it orange, that is gona give a nice brite red when you fire up youre lights

silverdemon
06-06-2006, 04:33 PM
that might not be a bad idea! it'll also give a nice color when the lights are turned off (in the daylight)...

Paint the inside. That will make your mod look about 50X better.

I've decide to paint the inside of the case orange (thnx for the tip GT40)..

also I'm trying to get my hands on a new heatsink, a thermaltake volcano 7+, which is a 100% copper heatsink... I think the color will look nice in there, and also, because it is copper I might not even need a fan (remember I'm using a 500 MHz AMD K6 II processor)... but I'm not sure about that now...

I will spray the case in a few weeks, because I will have to pass some exams the comming weeks :(

anyways, I'll send an update when it's done ;)

OK, sow I'm now making the pictures and writing some things, so pictures will be online in a VERY short time now ;)

Allright, I've finally finished painting of the inside of the case. I must say it came out very nice if you ask me... (thnx for the idea synapz and GT40_GearHead)
anyways, here are some pictures, let them do the talking...

looks great, you did a great job painting it:D

silverdemon
07-26-2006, 03:42 PM
thanks! yeah I used your idea, because it was the best solution..

and if I may say it... I'm proud of what I did, it's not a real complicated mod, but for a first time I thinks it's nice...

btw, the paint-job was easy, I just sprayed the paint on, and let it dry... didn't even use primer or clear coat  :p

Nice work. Glad to see it came out so good without the proper prep...

BTW, I never see anyone paint the I/O plate when they paint the rest of the case.

silverdemon
07-26-2006, 05:06 PM
no, I didn't paint that because it has a nice and shiny look... Also I didn't paint the PCI-slot thingies that are used (network card and light swith) because they are also nice chrome-colored...

Ok, Now its time for my ideas. I think it looks pretty good, Compared to my paintjob.

You're powersupplies fan ain't matchign at the back, Get you're hands on an 80 MM RED LED fan, and replace it with th eone in the back of you're powersupply. Its not that complicated. Then you'll be lookin cool

silverdemon

hmmmm *starts to think....*

Maybe my mod is never finished... will look into it. Maybe do it if it's not too expensive...
you see, this is my file-server so it stands in a corner, I don't want to spend a whole lot of money to make the back look very nice :p

but it's a good idea though...

[edit] I just checked xoxide.com, red LED fans are in the price range of $5 to $15  so I'll make a trip to the local store soon ;)

thnx for the idea

got the perfect mod for it...
you know the large blue hairy guy from bugs bunny shows.... yut add some blue hair, some shoes, some eyes.... you got it

silverdemon

I don't know exactly what kind of case, but it came with my Packard Bell club 1500 computer... (or something like that) The case is really old, the Packard Bell came with windows 98 installed.....
it was an AMD K6-II 500 MHz system...

I don't think you can get this exact case, so you'll have to search for another one that looks about the same...

[edit] went to the shop today and bought a red LED-fan for the PSU, it works nicely, but I don't have a very good camera, so don't have any good pictures yet, maybe next week or so...

silverdemon
07-30-2006, 07:24 PM
OK, so I've replaced the fan of the PSU with a nice red LED-fan... Was quite a bit of work, needed to solder things and stuff. Luckily it all worked when I put it together...
here are two pictures, one with flash and one without flash...

I think it will never be finished... But for now it's OK, it's not a very fast system and I don't want to spend a fortune on it.
Maybe in the future I will get some black conectors, and maybe some nice red anodized thumbscrews for the back... but I thinks it's pretty much finished for now

Thnx for the comments ;)

Razors Edge

I have like 7 matching Silver thumb scerews if you need.

silverdemon
07-31-2006, 02:49 PM
If you are willing to send them to me, then I won't stop you...
but I want red ones, you know the nice anodized little screws...
also I don't think I should spend money on those small details, as I said before, it's an old system and it's used as a server (read: stands in a corner of the room and isn't touched very often)
So if you really want to get rid of those thumbscrew PM me and I'll send you my adress, but if you want money for them you can keep them

thnx for the offer though!

Razors Edge

nah, The little thumb screws ar like 7.99 for 10 or somthing. I'l send you a pack. PM me you're adress, and I'll see if i can send you a pack.

I was thinking, Couldn't you just paint them red?

i love the case, it goes together very well!

did you ever put a clear coat over the matte black paint? that would really make ur server look spiffy!:D

great work!

GT40_GearHead

This mod right here is a perfect example of making a lot out of a little. I don't see much exterior work done to it in terms of adding parts and pieces to it; however, what really sets this mod off are the colours. The entire scheme of red and black were done flawlessly and made a simple mod look like a very intricate piece of work. Once again, kudos on the very nice job and keep up the good work!

Best regards,
purdy (a.k.a. lone_wulf)

thanks a lot, that is so true. You're right about the exterior, I did almost nothing about it. Only spray painted it black and cut the window and hole for the front fan...

about keeping up the good work...
I'm working on a design of a new case, but I want the design thought out completely before I start building it, but I think it will look very good. I will try to make it a bit more professional than this mod...

btw if someone knows where to find a case with a completely flat front (52x50x20 cm or something) than please tell me about it...

How much are you willing to spend? I know that lots of Lian-Li cases have completely flat front panels, but they are pricey.

silverdemon

ofcourse I don't want to spend too much on it, can you post some links of the cases? than I'll have a look.

thnx
