Well I had a cheap compUSA case laying around that needed a desperate
redo, so I decided to do a mod.

Not knowing what theme I could use for it, I thought of a good one while
playing COD2. Why not make a soviet themed computer? They have been
around in almost every popular war game.

The first thing I want to do in my mod is get rid of the ugly blow hole side
of the case and make a window. Using measurements and a little trick
from Modders Inc. I drew out a window.

http://static.flickr.com/59/163781959_cfd5b2836a.jpg

For cutting, I used a combination of the dremel and the jig saw.

Ouch!

For the side that does not have a window, i decided to have a golden
backlit hammer sickle. Cutting it out meant having to make a stencil in
photoshop.

http://static.flickr.com/54/164413275_8644f23779.jpg

Again using careful cutting and just a cutoff wheel this time I cut out a
hammer and sickle.

This is a rough sketch from sketch up.

The three ducts at the top will serve as blow holes for the koolance water cooling system im putting in.

i have a bunch of lexan in garage stored which im going to spray goldenrod yellow and backlight. thats what
im hoping to get done today.

as for three ducts on the top. im trying to get the look of a Nuke generator which were used alot by the
soviets. i was looking around modders inc and i like the way Defyant has been doing them.

This Defyants mod down here:

hmm, you should try to slant the top and make it look like a soviet factory.

just for future projects, i suggest making your cuts with the back of the panel facing you, that way you dont end up with the cutting disc going out of contorl making those little marks on the outside of your case. i had to learn that the hard way, heh.

thats a great idea! i never thought about. i could also turn it into a soviet war factory like from c&c ra 2.

I agree with Great Destroyer, that would be a great idea.

another spur-of-the-moment idea: mount fans inside the case just below the stacks to blow air out, so they'll have some functionality to em too!

ouu destroyer, read what man posted, he said he's goona use a koolance setup under the stacks, so they got preaty big functionality

On my computer it has the outer layer (visible) and the inner layer (internal), so I can't take the side panels off :(.
TO THE MOD!!
I really like the idea of this desktop and I want to make something like this in the future. It would be cooler to make a slanted roof (more "original" looking) but if that is too difficult don't bother.
Good job so far!

well im not an amateur case modder, but i already have plans on the mod, so
i stick with what i plan. so no slanted top.

some bondo work today. i wanted to get rid of some ugly parts of case
window. i also did the actual striping of the case a few days ago. as you
can see there is some rust on the case. there was a downpour in austin this
past weekend (i left the case outside). im also hoping to get the window painted today.

Don't you need a prescription for that?

I think it would have been real useful a few years back.

qoou

it is called aircraft remover, because planes need a special type of paint that sticks to the plane really well to create less drag. Virtually it can remove anything.

well its been a while since i posted, but work is still getting done. ive been
making the front bezel with a jet like blowhole. i used fiberglass and bondo. still
needs more sanding and bondo.

You certainly have my respect, sir, and I'm looking forward to the rest of your worklog. If you have additional problems with this in your worklog, just let DaveW or myself know and we will be glad to help.

What is the brown stuff on the bondo? Is that the paint remover? And if so, what is being removed from the bondo?

qoou

its the fiberglass. i needed something to reinforce the bondo. bondo in huge amounts is very delicate.

If somehow you could make the smokestacks actually produce smoke at the flip of a switch, thatd be freaking sweet.

Pretty cool man, Thanks for the tip on using the cd to cut.

- Also if you want the case to look more like a Soviet Power Plant, You should have to cables, With the green Coolant in them, To run through the outside on the side of the case. If they have the green colored coolant, that would make it look like some nuke.
