This mod is inspired by the incredible series written by Alan Moore back in 1982. Miracleman was similar to DC's Shazam. He was a young reporter who was given great super powers through atomic energy. Speking the word ATOMIC backwards: written as "KIMOTA" is what transformed him into Mircleman.
The series gets very dark. It touches on mass genocide by super heroes and the idea that we may not be alone in this universe.

The victim case is the Cooler Master HAF XB.

But first it needs to be stripped to the bone

Nice!
Not to stray off topic, but whenever I see "XB" I think of this:
The Buell XB 12 S Firebolt.
http://www.motorbikespecs.net/images//XB-12R_Firebolt_04-07/XB-12R_Firebolt_04-07_1.jpg
OK, so I have motorcycles on the brain...
I am glad to see you constantly modding systems. Not sure how you have the time...
BTW: Who is this one for and what is it's function in life?

What timing .. I am about to start a HAF-XB myself. Unless I just jinxed it by saying something.. LOL

I wanted to do two 120mm fans on each side, but they won't fit
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120487.jpg
So I'll do 92mm fans instead (I'm not using the grills, they're just for reference)
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120488.jpg
Time for my hole saw
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120489.jpg
I cut two fan holes and the mesh on each side for windows
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120517.jpg
I just want to see how it looks, so I put the mesh back on. Yep, that looks stupid!
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120499.jpg
That odd looking honeycomb looks even worse
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120498.jpg
So it has got to go!
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120500.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120506.jpg
Now it's Red!
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120509.jpg
And so is the PSU shroud
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120525.jpg
And just about anything that's not already blue.

While the red paint dries we go dress up the blue chasis. First I put the hot swap bay PCB back in
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120511.jpg
On to the cooling. The Cooler Master XB only comes with two 120mm intake fans, but I want 140's instead
I'll be using Aerocool Blue LED Sharks
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120512.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120516.jpg
And I put the tooless clips back on
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120519.jpg
I really don't want to see the stickers through the fans through the mesh, so I'm taking them off
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120522.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120523.jpg
I put the motherboard tray back in
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120521.jpg
And then a rear 120mm Blue LED exhaust fan
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120527.jpg
There's also another two 80mm Blue LED fans going on the back by the drive bays
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120533.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120534.jpg
Lastly, the slots cover go back in.
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120539.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120540.jpg
Next time we'll look at the side panels
TheGreatSatan
03-01-2013, 08:51 PM
I put the top piece is dry
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120545.jpg
And so is the PSU cover
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120541.jpg
The drive bay covers are done as well
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120543.jpg
Now I have to paint the side panels
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120544.jpg

It took 3 strip downs all the way to the metal for it finally to stick. This was a really annoying process, but it's finally done
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120548.jpg
Now it's time for some custom fan grills
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120549.jpg

Now that the sides are dry I put the plastic handles back on

I'm using an all plexi top
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120581.jpg
And using rivets to hold it in place. I put tape over the tip of the rivet gun so I don't accidentally scratch the paint
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120583.jpg
I got this custom applique from CrazyPC (I still need to remove the bubbles)
KIMOTA!

Looking good. My XB should be here Tuesday, and this worklog has been great at giving me a sneak peak at what I am in store for when it comes to dismantling it.

I have custom 92mm grills on order for the side panels
TheGreatSatan

I had custom Miracleman logos cut out of aluminum by Rapid Creek Cutters (http://rapidcreekcutters.com/default.htm)
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120667.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120669.jpg
I'll be using a regular 92mm grill as the base
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120673.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120675.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120676.jpg
Next I give everything a couple of coats of red
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120677.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120678.jpg
Looks awesome
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120681.jpg
I'm gonna go with just two screws or each fan
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120684.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120683.jpg
http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120685.jpg
Then a Bondo/epoxy to bond them together.

I still needed to add the glass on the side panels

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1120861.jpg
I'd actually like to do a couple more things, but there are time restrictions I'm under by the person getting the case. So, I am done.....I guess
