Anyone know where I can get some free ringtones? There was a site I visited years ago and that was safe, but I don't remember. Know any?

I use ring droid and just turn my music into reign and message tones.

I second Zedge. Use it all the time.
I usually just make my own, but what kind of phone?

Your carrier probably has some sort of archaic distribution system in place where you can pay some ridiculous amount of money upfront for 'credits' to download ringtones. Once you have credits, you can then log into their distribution system and find that they don't have anything you want to put on your phone. In frustration, just end up downloading the latest Justin Beiber ringtone and you'll be fine.

Haha you could also use audacity and make yourself some rigtones out of your own songs. Although I don't know if your phone allows mp3 ringtones.

Might get farther if you provide carrier and phone model information.

I usually just take sound effects I like from PC games. Edit on PC, convert to/from mp3 or ogg or whatever is necessary to play on the device. Wide selection, evokes fond memories of teh leet pwnage, completely free.
Of course, my particularly manly and slightly frightening insane diabolical laugh has been - by far - the most popular ringtone in my collection. For when my boss/work calls.
You can download Zedge ringtones from their website. I would try that and then see if you can send it to your phone via email. It used to be something like YOURNUMBER@carrier.com
Try sending an email to yourself from text to make sure you get the address correct.
Also, check out http://www.phonezoo.com/. I think I used them a long time ago. Not sure if they have changed the past 3 years, but it was pretty simple back then. You pick what you want and they send it to you via MMS.
