Enamel is best for painting on metal but if you've primered correctly, any paint should stick well. Latex shouldnt be used when another type of paint or clear coat is applied on top.

Latex is a rubber and most other paints and clear coats and anything with a solvent base will disolve it.

I accidently disolved a screwdriver handel in solvent. Took only a few hrs :) with MIBK (Metheyl IsoButal Keytone, an ingredient in red shop primer)

P.S. I ran a small paint manufacturing plant for about a year.
