I'm assuming by, "make your case" you mean that we should give a story or reason why we're the most deserving of the new computer.

Come all, listen to my sad tale.

I am an architecture student with little money. I cannot do the mods I wish to do because of this lack of money. If I had any money, I still wouldn't do mods because toys and things of play are low on my priority list. This is the only real negative in my life.

I am a recent father and I spend most of my day with my 10 month old son. He is amazing and so much fun. He takes up most of my time so I don't really get to work on a lot of the projects I want to work on, but I don't really care. My son is awesome and brings more joy into my life than any computer I've ever owned.

I currently only own three PCs which I can call my own. One I use in studio, on campus, to work on architecture projects. It has a 28" monitor, but it's only 1920x1200 resolution. Sad day! It's actually a pretty awesome computer.

I have an HTPC, which is currently not hooked up to my TV because I'm rebuilding a credenza with a new "cheap man's" hi-fi speaker and amp. It will also house the HTPC components themselves so they won't be in a case next to the credenza anymore. Life is still amazing without the HTPC, but I mean, it could be better if the project were complete and I had my HTPC back.

And also, I don't have the money for wireless PC XBOX 360 controllers, and for that Logitech touchpad that's really nice, and for an Adalight system to improve the immersiveness of games and movies, or for a metal bending brake and a couple other tools to make a really nice faceplate for USB controller converters for playing roms of retro games on their original controllers. So yeah, this is pretty bad.

My main computer is a fairly new computer with a quad-core i7 and a Radeon 6950 2Gb graphics card. It's not as new as some other people's machines, which means I need new stuff. I currently run three 24" 1920x1200 monitors on this machine and sometimes I can't play games at max settings. The worst thing about the computer is that the custom made Portal speakers I made a few years ago need a new amp because the one I have is adding some distortion "hum" in the background. The new amp would cost $20.

My wife only has a laptop, and it doesn't even have an SSD! What a miserable life! She has to use our current gen iPad to do a bunch of stuff when the battery is low on the laptop! I should add that the iPad is pretty much 100% hers, which means I rarely play with it. And I promise it's not because I'm playing on one of my other computers, it's definitely because the iPad is hers. I mean, I'm really desperate to play games on a 10" screen with crappy touch controls for a game that would make more sense with a keyboard, mouse, or proper controller.

So there it is, naked, for the whole world to see: My sad story of why I need another computer.

Do I win?

I've seen some peoples specs in drop down menus and there are definitely people who need this

My son (6 years old) has taken quite an interest in Minecraft and some other games and could definitely use his own computer system. Of course, he and I can mod the heck out of it to make it his very own.

Oh yeah for sure. I'm definitely not one of those people. I really do appreciate that you do this for people. There are lots of people who are less fortunate than me who deserve to have a nice PC.

Well, mine is old. I think I built it in 2009. Later that same year, I took a hit at work because I pissed off the wrong person by doing my job correctly. I was transferred out of the NOC. I'm now printing and inserting bills. Glad to have a job, but I'm stuck, no way to get promoted, no way to get a raise. Two years ago, I had to drop almost $4000 into my house as we were lightly infested with bed bugs. I'd hate to see what the cost would be for a major infestation! Last year, my oldest had to have ACL surgery, paid a lot out of pocket on that as well since her sperm donor father refused to do a damn thing citing that he already pays child support. I recently had to drop over $2000 into the car. Had to replace two engines (got screwed big time on one of them!!) and buy other parts. So yeah, for the last few years any spare cash that I would have normally had to build a new system has been sucked up by other things. A second computer would be awesome. I'd probably give this one to the kids so they aren't fighting over who gets to use it.

Core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram, 120 gig main drive (not SSD) 500 gig backup/media drive (again, not SSD), GEForce 9500 GT. Optical drive is some slow lightscribe. My case is good though, NZXT Hades. Bad ass case!

Well I guess I'll throw my story out again.

We let my brother in-law move in with us after he got out of prison so he could get back on his feet. He was a non-violent offender and it was not computer/internet related offenses.

The week after his probation expired (this was in March 2012) we get woke up at 6am to police and the FBI beating on our door. He was accused of uploading child porn. They gave a very specific time and date of when this upload occurred, he was at work at the time.

Since he lived with us and conceivably had access to our computers they seized both my computer, my wifes computer, our my book (which had all of our pictures for about five years and two vacations on it) plus all of our backed up drives. This February they finally got around to actually looking at this case and all charges were dropped. They learned that his computer had a trojan virus that was linked to some site in eastern Europe and was using other peoples stolen credit card info. We still can't get an answer about when or even if we'll get our stuff back. The police department that has it says they are waiting for the DA to okay the release of our property, The DA won't even talk to us because we weren't the ones charged and they keep giving my brother in-law the run around.

Now we're not at the poverty level but we don't have a lot of money to go and replace what can be replaced. I recently went back to work after an almost 6 month layoff. And just had to replace the transmission in my wifes car. So right now we share a POS that we could afford off craigslist. We're rockin' a P4 1.33 mhz with 512 MB and onboard video. It surfs the web good enough to do facebook and forums (as long as you only try and open one page at a time, and don't even think about streaming videos) and thats about it. I was hoping to upgrade it a little bit but I didn't look close enough (d_stilgar was nice enough to send me some ram) but this pos is older than I thought and take DDR not DDR2. :( It's so outdated I can't justify spending anything on upgrading. On top of that if/when we get our computers back the newest one is an AMD 64 core 2 that almost 7 years old.

After I read through some of these stories it makes me feel bad for posting anything.

My system was a budget PC built over 5 years ago, AMD Athlon 64x2 4800, 3gb ram. Hard drive wise I just had to use a possible bad hard that was removed from my wife's dell laptop because my hard drive died and it needed to be replaced. Running a Lightscribe DVD drive and an IDE DVD drive.

The system was built for gaming but has migrated to a work pc since I work from home I need to scrap a system together that is more reliable then the current system has been in the last few months.

I just wanted to chime back in here. I was just looking through my PMs and noticed just how much free stuff I personally have gotten from TGS.

90Gb SSD (which was upgraded to 120Gb at the last moment)
Dirt Showdown
Borderlands 2

And this is just me. I think pretty much everyone here has benefited from TGS's generosity at some point. I'd just like to give my thanks for that right now. I can't speak for everyone, but I think we all appreciate it.

I had to sell my old computer so i could get a car, so I could go to school.Well i went to school and 15k later im out of a job and a car and school. sitting on a old HP laptop that has a dieing motherboard and bad battery. I have to keep retaping the cord in new places so the connector inside will make contact.

I concur I personally have nothing to whinge about. Just updated my specs and well that's just my main PC I have a secondary that is an i5, SLI GTX560s and a laptop that can still game competently and all systems boot from 120 or 250GB SSDs.

Currently have a hodgepodge of parts as my main rig going back to '07. Looking to get the kids something of their own to break and use for school. This would be a nice refresh and get me into a more current generation.

Well I see we lost some of this thread, but I wanted to again thank TGS for his generosity in doing this give away. This machine is awesome. I picked up Windows 7 Home 64 bit and everything installed and ran wonderfully. It runs all the games TGS included just great. The only thing I had an issue with was a driver for our printer. Thank you again TGS.

Nice big box came.
