View Full Version : Skyrim: Dwemer Built

Have you ever played Skyrim? If you have, then you've seen what the Dwemer race is capable of. They are an ancient lost race of elves who built machines and robots out of copper that were powered by steam.

Makes you wonder, if Dwemer's ever got around to building PC's. What would they look like? Edit Text

"A race of stonecutters, artisans, and engineers. They invented machines and built elaborate underground cities where they researched powers to rival the gods themselves. And then, at a time we are still not sure when, they disappeared. The whole people, all at once. Leaving behind only their works." - Calcelmo (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Calcelmo)

I've been wanting to do my own Prodigy case mod for the last 6 to 8 months at least. I will be converting it to mATX too, and I know I'm not the first to do this.

Regardless, I need to do my own version!

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130685.jpg

I like the footprint, but hate this case

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130686.jpg

I removed everything that can be taken off with a screwdriver

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130687.jpg

Then about ten rivets to remove the drive cage

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130688.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130689.jpg

I need an mATX frame.....

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130690.jpg

Next to the Asus Vento, this is the ugliest case. Although it is only $13!

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130692.jpg

Besides the frame, I get a crappy 230 Watt PSU for testing cathodes and fans

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130694.jpg

Here's what I needed

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130697.jpg

I'll be putting the motherboard in the middle of the case and the PSU behind the motherboard tray. I'm also pushing it against the rear of the case, so I can fit a 200mm high air flow fan as an intake

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130698.jpg

The case came with a handy PSU back plate which lets me plan out where it will go

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130700.jpg

Here's the 200mm NZXT fan I'm going to use. It moves 160 cfm's!

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130703.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130704.jpg

I'm going to be putting mesh over the top of the fan, so the mesh that's there now has to go!

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130706.jpg

The back plate and PSU holes get cut out too

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130708.jpg

I'll be adding Bondo soon

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130710.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130711.jpg

I wanted to see how it looked, so I put a power supply in

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130714.jpg

This is not going to be the back anymore and it's got to go

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130719.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130721.jpg

Here's the mesh I'm using

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130723.jpg

But I have to cut it to size

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130724.jpg

And neatly cut the edges

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130728.jpg

I put a crappy dead board in so I get the measurements right

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130726.jpg

Like this exhaust fan.

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130731.jpg

The fan grill is just to measure out the hole

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130734.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130735.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130737.jpg

No Dwemer construction is complete till you add copper

So, I picked up this 5 foot piece of copper

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130738.jpg

And cut out two pieces for the bottom of the case

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130739.jpg

I also picked up some elbows and t-sections

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130740.jpg

I pieced together an "H" to start

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130741.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130742.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130743.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130744.jpg

Now that it's set on the bottom of the case, I know it needs to be a little taller. I want it to lift the case about two inches off the surface it sits on just like the previous feet did

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130745.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130746.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130747.jpg

I'm not sure yet, but I may use this shower drain as a fan grill

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130749.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130750.jpg

I picked up four dowels

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130757.jpg

and candlestick holders

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130759.jpg

First I drilled out the candlestick holders

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130760.jpg

Then I ran a threaded rod through the holders into the rod

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130761.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130762.jpg

Then taped it so the glue could dry evenly

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130763.jpg

While they dry, I mark and drill holes for them

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130766.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130768.jpg

The dowels are all dry now

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130764.jpg

Now it's time to add them to the case

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130769.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130770.jpg

I don't play SkyRim so I am totally lost, but I can't wait to see what this becomes.

The 2nd one needed to be stripped down too

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130775.jpg

Then dropped it on top of the pillars!

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130777.jpg

Then secured it with bolts

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130778.jpg

It will need a bog fan too

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130779.jpg

But first they both need to match the theme

Your builds always have me really curious. The photos are such a tease for what you are going to do to it, and it's always something a little off the beaten path. I love that and can't wait for more.

I'm with d_stilgar on this! It isn't until about 3/4s of the way through TGS' worklogs that I finally go aha! That being said the result is always worth the wait, can't wait to see how this works out!

I painted the pillars copper

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130796.jpg

Then I started to rock out the case....

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130797.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130798.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130800.jpg

I picked some hydrocal and rock molds

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130820.jpg

And after hours of screw-ups and dry time, I made quite a few molds. They're heavier than I expected they would be

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130821.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130823.jpg

Here's a sharpie next to it so you can see how thick they are

At this point it's OK to mount the top case

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130865.jpg

Now that the first coat of paint has dried on the rocky panel

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130871.jpg

I can start planning where the copper pies go. More rock coming too!

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130877.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130878.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130880.jpg

For the top left panel I cut the copper piping I'm using for the panel. It goes over the window to break up the obvious rectangle window on a Dwemer ruin.

Once it's mounted, I'll complete the rock under-surface too

I was up till 3 a.m. working on this and here's what I did.

I bought more of the metal mesh for the top of the bottom case

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130905.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130906.jpg

Like so...

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130909.jpg

And it doesn't need to be perfect either

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130910.jpg

I'll need a non-conforming window/hole for the top case right panel

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130912.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130915.jpg

Some mesh will be here too. . . . . . rock on the way

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130916.jpg

Next, I'll need a go-between pipe that will disguise cables going from one case to the other

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130919.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130920.jpg

I just have to make them stay together with a joint. I could only find plastic ones that would fit

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130922.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130924.jpg

It just needs paint to look real

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130928.jpg

While that dries I move on to the rear bottom exhaust fan

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130930.jpg

And the copper drain cover for the grill

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130935.jpg

The mesh I cut is dry and ready!

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130939.jpg

Now to break up the transition from the case to the metal mesh with a big rock

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130943.jpg

I used a brush to add levels of lights and dark colors. Hopefully it'll look more realistic once it dries

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130949.jpg

http://www.pcmodhouse.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/p1130954.jpg
