i just recently installed my older mobo into my koolance case....i installed a copy of Windows XP lite

i start it up...all the POST screens show up fine...but when it gets to the windows startup screen it goes all scrambled....at first i thought it might have been my video card...so i tried another spare one....same thing happened ...just less

i tried my on board video..and it was just fine

any suggestions on what to do?
thx in advance

what kind of AGP slot is it. If its only AGP 4x and the card is 8x it wont work.

It also might be a windows lite error.

But yeah, check speeds and stuff.

Replace the batt. on your mobo...

Check the time on the bios next time you restart. If it's not current, your batt is dying.

If it's not that then maybe installing the new agp card changed it. Who knows.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.

Not true, my old P4 system only had a 4x slot and I used a 8x card in it perfectly.

Ok yeah your right, I forgot most cards are backwards compatible. AGP 4x/8x, but something wasn't working, it was the first thing to come to mind. I usually check for hardware problems then software, so it was the first thing I thought of.

Ive got a Radeon 7500 AGP which is 4x running on my mobo which is a ABIT BE6-II 2x.

Indeed, some cards can just scale backwards to 2x and 4x. Like my 9600 Pro runs at 4x, despite being an 8x card.

Before jumping to conclusions, does your motherboard have an existing on-board video? If so, connect your monitor to that to see if that works. If it does, look in the BIOS and check that the BIOS checks for the AGP card before checking for anything else. If it isn't, change the setting and then try the AGP card again.

yeah most 8X cards are compatible with 4X....least' with the experience I've had.

I think your thinking of the 3 different AGP voltages. Check it out here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_Graphics_Port)
