Hey i was wondering if anyone could help me out with a new hard-drive recommendation. I sold off my 3.5 size hard-drive with power like last week as it was 2 much off a hassle. Iam looking to buy a 80Gb-100Gb or more on a laptop size hard-drive, the 2.5' size one. Iam looking for the latest one, with good size and goos speed as well as must be comapct. DO you know any sites that do hard-drive recommendation. Iam nto really on a budget but cant be over $250 AUS and i can paypal. What are the best hard-drive manufacture??? sony?

Does anyone know any good ones let me know. Speed must be FAST

You're not going to get speed out of laptop hard drives. They aren't faster than desktop or server drives. You're looking for 5400 rpm drives. That's about as good as it gets for laptops.

I would suggest seagate. I've been using their hard drives for a long time and haven't had issues with them. I'm fairly hard on my drives and normally never shut them off unless I absolutely have to.

With your budget, I doubt if you can get a fast high capacity drive. Then again I don't know Oz prices.

I hope this helps.

Thats kind of expensive ^ in ontario we can get the 300gb diamondmax 10 for $114 :D

Speaking of which those drives are good. I have one(soon to get another) and I have no complaints. You cant really buy hardrives just by the name though. All hd manufactureres have good and bad drives. What are you looking for btw? SATA? SATA II? IF you want fast then get a raptor.

there are also some 7200rpm laptop-drives, and also in the size you want..
but that gives you about 1 or 2 % speed advantage over a 5400 rpm drive... so that's probably not worth the extra money...

I agree with nil8 that seagate makes good HDD's

Guys just to let you know maxtor is gone, seagate bought them up not long ago. Also, seagate isn't the only good company, don't forget hitachi.

Seagate is still running Maxtor as a flagship though.

Hitachi made IBM's hard drives back in the day. They should run well for a good long time.

Western Digital makes good higher end stuff, I don't know about their lower end.

I can't think of many other companies.
Fuijitsu used to make HD's, who knows now.

The hitachi deskstar's are great but lately the larger disk sizes have been a touch on the noisy side.
