best type? usually you dont have a choice of what type you use in your system. usually its either DDR or DDR2 depending on what motherboard you have, assuming you have a somewhat recent system that is. if you mean brand, then i would say go with either corsair or kingston, theyve always served me well. but then theres always companys like OCZ and Patriot, theyre worth a look as well. just remember mhz isnt the only thing to consider with your ram. you also want to get the lowest latency possible. usually budget ram is like cas 3 and the good stuff is cas 2

It's valueram with a heatspreader.
Kingston:
Red heatspreader on PDP ram = Good stuff
Blue heatspreader on PDP ram = Valueram.
Trust me. I know.
I've got a 512 stick of the original red PDP, it owns.
EDIT:
WOAH
Kingston pulled a bait-n-switch on me. Bastards. Yeah. That HyperX is pretty good. Get it.

what is the difference between two 1 gb sticks and the 2gb kit, i know the 2 gb kit is two 1gb sticks, but what about performance
the only reason why i ask this is because i wanted to get the 2 gb kit but i dont have enough money so im just going to buy 1 gb for now and ad the other gb later
what is the difference between unbuffered and registered ram?

The 2 gig kit is dual-channel. I don't know much about RAM, but I'm pretty sure dual-channel runs faster than 2 1 gig sticks that aren't dual channel would.
Edit: Registered vs. Unbuffered. (http://www.2cpu.com/articles/44_1.html)

in the kit the RAM-sticks are perfectly tuned to match, they run at exactly the same speed etc... so a kit is probably better, but I don't think it would make a big difference if you buy the second stick later...

I would advise if u want 2 gigs of ram to just get a 2 gig stick, it increases performance...i'm not perfectly sure of the reason but i think it's like xfire vs. sli performance. xfire info goes to one place and is all processed there, thus increasing speed compared to SLI going to 2 sources where it is processed and shared, thus being a slightly lower speed.
that may be a little hard to understand do to lack of periods and stuff.

ok, but what if you have 2 thingies, lets say the work at 200 MHz... If you put one big unit in it, the data-transfer will be 200 MHz tops...
BUT if you have 2 (smaller) units, you can transfer data through two 'ports' so you actually have 400 MHz of processing / transfer-speed...
at least, I think it works that way... also there are losses in speed because the 2 devices will have to 'talk to eachother' so the mentioned 400 MHz will never be realistic...

Well, based on this (http://www.tcmagazine.info/articles.php?action=show&id=128&perpage=1&pagenum=1), it looks like either route would be fine. Dual-channel preformed better sometimes, but so did single. So really it's your call.
