Depends on the company. Some request to have the item back so they can share it out to others to review because of low supply or they are just expensive items. They usually arrange something else to compenste for yor review time. Sometimes they don't though. Then some companies let you keep them and then its up to you what you want to do with them such as sell, keep and mutilate or use in a giveaway.

I did some reviews for GT a few years ago (Only reason I got my Digi cam when I did). All of the Items were valued over 100.oo at the time and were sent back. Some of the items would have been nice to keep but Oh well. ;)

I give most of the stuff I review away or...I use it as a prize in a contest.

know a guy in the carolinas, who uses the components he reviews to build custom systems that he loans friends on a permanent basis. that's how my sister scored a nice mid-ramge pentium system.

Well, I have been doing reviews over at GruntvillE for 2 years or so now, and 95% of the companies let you keep whatever it is you review. There are some companies that require you to send an item back, and we generally do not deal with them. Of course, there are exceptions. For instance, one company wanted to send us 3 new high-end video cards (X800, X800XT and X800PE) to review side-by-side and the writer could keep the X800XT. That is something we would have done, but they couldn't get a PE card to us. Other times, with a really expensive item we would consider it as well.

There is on company out there that makes peripherals and some other neat stuff that will only loan review items out. The most expensive of these items it like $300, so we don't review any of their products.

As for what the reviewers do with them, I use most of it. A few items have gone to the Prize Bin, many are sitting around my home office waiting for me to get my act together, taek inventory, and sell them. :D
