Some places will do apriasels in the hope that you will sell to them. But if they refuse just shop around untill some one does it for free.

Actually most experts will tell you that Ebay is the absolute worst place to sell used jewelry. Since the buyer only has your pictures to go by, they are usually wary of buying something that cannot be appraised before they buy it. You as the seller will never see full value for your sale.

I hate to say it, but jewelry in general is hard to sell for true value...Pawn shops will rip you a new one, you can't return it, and Ebay is a hard sell. Best bet might be those little newspapers that people sell stuff in...they call it the penny-saver here, dunno what else they call it...sell it local and then people can actually see it before they buy...just a thought...good luck. :)

depending on where you live, a Farmer's Market or other local open-air market may be a good bet for you, or you can go to local stores that will sell them on consignment. The others here are right - most jewelry is very hard to sell online.

When buying jewelry, I usually shop online, then go to the local store. I like to support local business, but they are sometimes pricey. I bring what I find online to them and see if they can match/beat the price.

i cant give you any suggestions on where to go, but i can offer advice if you show me what you're thinking of buying. you may have seen me mention that i did jewelry for a while in high school. im also into rocks, and know my gems damn well.

lets just put it this way. all my friends come to me for repairs and appraisals now.

well if you can find pictures of something you like, and find out how much metal is in it, and what stones if any... i can give you a material and "retail" price.

Well I guess im not going to get me a ring. The store did tell me how much they were for free but it isnt any money compared how much they are worth new. If you want to see what was trying to get for them heres 12 pictures I took(the pictures arent that great because they are from a handicam by sony)

There is a total of 6 pieces which are 3 rings, earings, and a bracelet. All of the rings and the earings have real diamonds in them and the bracelet is sterline silver. Im not sure the karat of the gold but I know its all above 10 kts the ring with the most diamonds is 14 kt im not sure about the other jewelry.

The total for all the jewelry they said would be $230 whih is a bunch of bull. The ring with the most diamonds was I know more than $1200 alone.

ya something doesnt sound right about that. silver and gold are going up steadily and have gone up astronomically over the past... year to year and a half. for instance, i priced out a gold ring that i was going to make for myself. at the time i did it (last fall) it was going to be 150 for the gold. a month ago, it was about 225. my point being... jewelry, expecially gold and diamonds, dont go down in price, they only go up.

now, speaking of gold. its kind of hard to tell because of the lighting, but it looks like whatever pieces had gold in them were probably between 14 and 18 karat. any less than 14 takes away from the yellow, and any more than about 20 will be too soft. 18 is usually the perfect balance.

im kind of skeptical about those diamonds too. even though the pictures arent great, you can always see the characteristic fire of a diamond. i dont see that in anything except the earrings.

the craftsmanship doesnt look that good either. i can see irregular shining on all the metal, and that says either it wasnt polished enough, or it came out of casting VERY rough. in any case, that doesnt speak too well for the person who made that stuff. i can also see that the inside of the rings are hollowed out... this is to reduce weight and cost. good jewelry, in my opinion, shouldnt have to be hollowed out. a good jeweler has such control over fine detail that they can overcome weight issues no problem.

The ring with the most diamonds was I know more than $1200 alone

IF those are real diamonds... you can double that easily. it looks like between 1.2 and 1.5 carats of diamond there.

overall, the biggest problem is the quote of 230 for everything. that guy would be losing SO much money on that deal... unless it was stolen, or unless its brass and zirconia (costume jewelry). i say stay away from that one. a very good sterling silver ring with a good 3mm circle sapphire should run about 230, and not gold and diamond.

incedentally... silver and blue sapphire look like a million bucks together. so does gold, purple and green. the ring i was going to make for myself... 20 karat gold, 2 iolites (pleochroic purple, meaning at certain angles it looks black), and 1 tourmaline (pleochroic green, again looking black at certain angles) between the iolites.

Thats the jewelry that I got apraised and they said all of that is only worth $230 or so. The rings are very shiny(you cant tell that too much because of the picture), they are also pretty old. My grandmother paid $300 for both of the rings with the diamonds in them(the one with the most diamonds she bought from her friend trying to sell his ring he bought for his wife which they devorced so he was trying to hurry and get it off of his hands, and the other one she bought from a pawn shop) she got the earings from a friend, and she bought the bracelet new at a jewelry store. I got the ring that has the wavy gold which also looks like it has 3 diamonds in it(it really doesnt thats just the design of it) from my step dad.

oh ok.. my mistake.

well in that case... the guy is probably trying to rip you off. if they cost 300 new... they could have only gone up in price, and by a lot too (assuming they're from the 70's or earlier).

get another opinion then. ill just play along and assume good polish and all that... and id say you could probably get 3000 or more for all that stuff. if the stores can charge that... im sure you could probably do a buy-and-sell thing and get just as much.
