hmm, i have mixed emotions on this. i mean, it was funny and all, but i was kinda hoping for more of a national press conferance kinda thing.

as much as i dont like those republicans... why does everyone suddenly care about what good old dubbya said? ill admit i have a little sympathy for him on this because its damn hard to censor yourself 24/7 just because someone might get offended. ill also admit that this one "oops" moment probably made the most sense out of anything the guys ever said. goes to show that maybe improv is a good way to go... minus the swearing of course.

while we're sort of on the topic... i say let the israelis and lebanese fight it out. it really would be a waste of time and resources to stop a battle in such an unstable part of the world... it would just start up again down the road. those guys tend to hold grudges for quite a while. i think it might be better if countries could just leave each other alone and mind their own business. start getting involved in crap like that... someones going to get dead in short order.

also, i think i heard that theres something like 25,000 tourists in that region from the US alone... or maybe thats 25,000 tourists in total. who in the right mind would go there for a vacation? why would you want to be there even for business? why would you take your family there? ive seen pictures of women with little babies going crazy trying to get on those cruise ships. are they idiots or something? they have to have known that oh maybe theres a chance something violent could happen... thats a safe bet in a place like that... and pleading ignorance on this one is NOT an option. i really cant feel sorry for those people... they made a bad choice... period.

so thats my take on it. overall though... i dont think about it that much... i dont particularly care unless it directly affects me, or something to do with climate or environments.

I am not a fan of the current administration (the shrub puppet included), but I think this was blown WAY out of proportion. Not like people have started vomiting and dying...

Edit:...oh wait...

I agree with you slug... I think we(meaning US) should leave the israelis and lebanese fight it out. We already know whos going to win... Israel.

Yes, and those people are very stupid that are "taking a trip there". Its not just the fact that theres a heafty chance that the tourist could easily get into the crossfire but also the fact that they are saying "the US government to pay for them to fly out of there."

Unfortunately it is not that simple. There is a very strong likelyhood that there will be some very large world powers stepping in to help both the Israeli and the Palestinian forces in the near future, including Iran.

I don't like how all of this looks, and am damn glad I'm not eligible for the draft.

There won't be a draft. Because if there was congress would have to approve it, and unless the men and women in congress don't want to get relected, I doubt any will support it. (If they did support it, people wouldn't vote for them because I duot anyone wants a draft.)

Plus theres the little known fact that the armed forces have reached and exeeded their recruiting qouta for 13 straight months. So theres really no need for one.

Army recruiters found 8,756 new recruits for active-duty service last month, surpassing their stated target of 8,600 -- marking the 13th consecutive month the service met or exceeded its target. The active Army now has 51,612 new recruits, and it hopes to sign up a total of 80,000 new recruits by the end of the 2006 budget year on Sept. 30.

turns out only the Navy is below their qouta, they only recruited 95% of what they wanted to in June.
