Ok I am getting this mobo Gigabyte GA-G1975X (http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/MotherBoard/Products/Products_Spec_GA-G1975X.htm). Now I am not sure exactly what memory will work.

mobo ram specs:
Type: Dual channel DDR2 533/667-240pin

Max capacity: Up to 8GB by 4 DIMM slots
---------------------------------------------------------

I should get DDR2 667 , 240 pin ............correct?

Am I limited to 667 RAM or can I do something else? I went to Corsairs website and their little program said that DDR2 800 will work for that specific mobo....thats where I get confused.

If I can do DDR2 800 I am interested in this ram. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145039

Please help!

Thanks,
Kyle

I can't speak authoritativly about DDR2 specifically, but in the past MOST memory has worked as long as it physically fits in the slot and is NOT slower than the recommended - I have a PC with a 266 FSB running DDR400 without any problems, as well as some PC133 running on a PC100 board. Bear in mind tho, that if you do NOT plan to overclock, the extra speed wont make any difference - the 800 will probably work, but it'll be running at 667 or maybe even 533 if the mobo isnt sure about it and defaults to the slower setting for "safety"

your sweet spot is going to be DDR2 667 becasue that is the fastest ram that motherboard supports. if you want to you can run 533 but you'll be putting in slower ram than you have to. also if you want to spend the extra money and get 800 you can but in order to get it to run faster than 667 you would have to mess with your memory mulitiplier in bios.

i have a gigabyte motherboard that supports 533 ram and i currently have 800 ram in it and changed my memory multiplier so that it runs at 800. But my computer has been a little flakey since i did that. Your jump would be smaller but it may have the same effect. Its your call.

sorry about the rant, i have been doing a lot of ram research lately and wanted to put in my $0.02. Hope i could help.
