is the upgrade from a pentium d940 to a 950 worth $30 and will the .2ghz give a larger overclocking potenetial?

the .2ghz isnt going to make much differance. and it doesnt mean youll have a higher OC. honestly, if theres a 30 dollar differance, you could spend that 30 on an after market cooling solution and most likely be able to get way more than an extra .2ghz out of the 940. but i also dont know much about the cpus in question here, the 950 may OC better than the 940, or maybe the 940 is better for OCing. i also dont know what the other differances are between the 2 processors. if i were you, i would find out what model is likely to overclock the best, if thats what you intend to do. i think hardocp.com had a link to an article a while back that said that one of the lower end pentium d cpus was a really nicer OCer. ill look around and see if i can find it. but definately do some research before commiting to either the 940 or 950
edit: found it, looks like the 930 has the potential to run at over 4ghz with stock everything. that is, if you get a good motherboard and good ram to go with it. heres the link

ok another question is the nvdua sli chipset so much better then an intel 9xx that its worth the extra money to buy a sli supported video rather than sticking to intel and getting a normal video card or keeping the stock? which in turn if keeping the stock saving $100+

im kinda condused with what your asking. but i guess it doesnt matter, im gonna answer you anyways. ;) if you want to spend a lot of money on graphics cards and run an sli steup, go for it. not the best way to spend over $1000, but to each his own. sure you can get cheaper sli setups, but why spend that much on 2 crappy cards when you could just buy one that doesnt suck. so basically, it all depends on your budget and what you plan on doing with your PC in the future. next time i upgrade, i will likely have to skip sli and just get a single card solution, not because of cash limitation, im just not sold on sli or crossfire yet. besides, if you want sli in the future and dont have an sli certified MB you could always get a 7950, lol. anyways, i dont honestly think that theres enough differance between intels chipset and nvidias, other than sli capability, to notice a realworld differance. im sure one will get you a slightly higher frame rate, transfer speed, etc. just make sure you dont buy a budget board and you should be good. i would stick to manufacturers like asus or abit and the like.

so would an asus p5ld2 vm dh be good for a budget build with either a core 2 duo E6300 or pentium d 930/40/50? with the proper air cooling so i dont bust the budget on water cooling and can still grab a good chunk out of there full overclocking potential
