View Full Version : Achieving a matt finish?
I'm looking to get a matt finish on my pc case. I've bought a 500ml can of grey primer and a 500ml can of matt black paint to test on a piece of pc case metal i happen to have. I'm wondering about sanding though, and whether, since i'm not aiming for a super-shiney finish, should I sand differently?
That and what kind of finish spray should i use (if any) after the paint has been applied?

im not 100% sure about this, im no paint expert, but i think that there are matte clear coats you can get. also if you use matte paint you should most likely use the same sanding methods as would be used for gloss paint, that way the paint turns out nice and even.
I would say just don't sand the last layer of paint. Any clear coat will make it alittle shiny, s test it out on a scrap piece first.

I used "blackboard"-paint on my case, it also has a matte-black color
I did not use any clear coat on top of the paint, because I think it will make it shiny again...
And if you use blackboardpaint and you're bored with your case you can always use you case for notes ;)

There is a Matt Clear coat and a gloss clear coat. As i mix matt and gloss, i've got both. As i haven't used either yet, i can't tell you how they look.

I'll be sure to get testing the metal soon and get back to here on this. That blackboard paint (chalkboard for the p.c. parade) sounds really good though, a bit soft for the effect i was going for, but cool for drawing on none the less.:p
