(Some of) the backstory:

About a half year ago, I bought a used computer. Cooler Master CM 690 (1st-gen), EVGA 132-YW-E180-A1, Q9400, 8GB DDR3, EVGA 9800GTX, 500GB Segate, 640GB WD Black, BD-ROM/DVD-RW combo drive, all for $50.

Later, I found a Super Micro 5-tray, 3-bay, 3.5" SATA HDD bay, for $10. Figured, that would make the platter drives a bit easier to install in case they ever died. Not that I'm counting on it of course, but it also uses the extra 3 5-1/4" drive bays.

Unfortunately, the motherboard spontaneously died. Swapped GPU, CPU, PSU, RAM. All other components in the system are fine (save the disassembled GPU due to me checking why it was a jet engine 100% of the time). The worst part is, the diagnostic display didn't even give a valid diagnostic code: "X6". Yes, just a 6. PDF doesn't even list it as an error code. The closest was "06", which was "reserved"...

However, this gets me an opportunity to upgrade my computer.

Thanks to Airbozo (who works at Supermicro), I've been able to acquire replacements for the HDD sleds!

As an aside, the other computer pictured here is a computer I helped my brother build back in 2013. It's not bad (being one of the higher-end AMD FX 8-core processors), but it's starting to show its age.

I have the same 690 chassis and love seeing people use them. My power button keeps breaking so I have to find another solution if I want to keep using it...

Glad you got the sleds, those are the old style and we had very few left lying around. The folks here were more than happy to "donate" them.

Haven't had any issues with my power button, thankfully!

One reason I love the 690 is because, you might be able to tell, this is a corner desk, and the power button is in such a place that it makes it easy to press it from that angle.
