Anyone ever mod a Compaq presario 5000?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v112/Rockoutwithyourcockout/P912950.jpg

its a tad old, but, thats what i have, and i want to see what other people
have done to them.
yaknow, maybe give me some ideas.

also, on the side panel that pulls off, im going to put in a window.

since its like a sheetmetal, if someone could tell me what to use to cut it,
would be great, thanks.

Defyants work is a great example of taking these kinds of cases and modding them.

His work is under 'Featured Worklogs' and he does it with old HP boxes.

I used a Dremel to cut. I would find something to practice on first though, because getting straight lines can be hard. Otherwise, jigsaw.

If you use a Dremel, ge the re-enforced<-(spelling?) cutting disks. They work the best.

And I agree, Defyant's work is very good. You should definately check it out.

well, im pretty much just gonna cut a window, sand it,
and add plexiglass.

Throw in some led's, maybe even another fan.

i was wondering also,

what can i do to make the wires look more organized and not all.
blah, if you get the picture.

It's called wire management/masking and there are some guys on this forum that do it and can direct you to instructional sites much better than myself.

Windows are a good place to start modding. If you're going to add fans, why not cut them out of the plex?

yeah, when i get the plexiglass material, im gonna ask my bro if he has any fans. ill cut slits, then holes for the screws, have him do the electronics, and,
vwala, another fan.

My dad has one at the shop, but I don't think he'll give it up.

If i can get my hand son one, I would put a 80 mm fan at the cd slot in the front. Blue led fan.

You might not want to use a dremel with plex. It will melt and adhere you cut back together. Get a jigsaw, do a rough cut and smooth it down with wood files. That will give you better results.

I used a Dremel, and I am very pleased with the results. Just use it at a slow/medium speed. It uses friction to cut, and will melt. But just take it slow.

And also, I didn't have any problmes with things melting back together.

Then, just break off the weird chunks of melted plexi, file the edges nice, and you're good to go.

Im gonna leave the side panel off for easy upgrades, I am gonna add 2 blacklights, a led fan, a usb hub (led lighted) inside the comp, and a bunch of minor upgrades, Project Nighthawk.
