teflon? bullet proof? nope. you must be thinking kevlar. this is probably the slickest mousepad you can get.
interestingly, microfibre and/or satin are pretty good too.

That is actually pretty cool, but I don't think 1.25 mm of steel will prtect you from much more than bb's. Wouldn't pay that much a mouse pad though, I use track ball mice.

i just use a ratpadz GS and theyre like 10 bucks and its the best mousing surface ive ever owned. only problem ive had is with a very specific microsoft mouse not sensing motion correctly if you moved the mouse really fast. but i hate microsoft mice anywas. Logitech>all

I am buying the Steelpad 5L Gaming Mouse Pad. Its a BIT cheaper but I mainly want it because it looks freakin sweet and its nice and thick. I hate that floppy cruddy stuff. Right now I am using a piece of plastic that has a thin layer of rubber embedded into it. Sad... lol but not for long!
YES! Go mice with balls! :P Wierd how I have a nice wireless logitech keyboard.... but I am using a HP track ball mouse!?!?! CORDED!? lol very very uncool and insuffient for my computing needs. Thats why I am going with the Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse. After using my brothers CORDED OPTICAL mouse I decided that I might as well go all out if its that much of a difference with a CORDED and a weak OPTICAL. Only I would spend 100 bucks on a mouse and mouse pad! lol HOPE ITS WORTH IT!

If you like trackballs, and you want wireless, why dont you buy the "Logitech cordless TrackMan wheel"??

it's a trackball, it's wireless, it's logitech... what do you want more??
oh yeah, it might cost 65€ (83 US$)

lol I never said I liked track balls.. I just said I use one. But like I said... I have tried a few optical so hearing that laser is way better than even optical.. I am thinking its a must. I dont like track balls anyways. Just never go around to upgrading... I used to have a laser mouse.. but it lasted about 3 hours before I broke it lol

The moment I got my paws on my first optical mouse I never went back. And that was back when the only optical mouses were microsoft.
A bullet proof mouse pat would be pointless. It's two small.

would an optical mouse work on a pice of polished aluminium

It should. Try it and let us know your results. I think optical mice only have problems with transparent surfaces like glass b/c of the effect on the light (I'm only refering to hard surfaces here). But it reads the reflection anyway so it should work.

Actually, i think you'll find that completely smooth surfaces can fool optical mice. If the aliminium is brushed, no problem-but polished, could pose a tricky situation.

have to make a corection on my last post:
not aluminium but titanium, a shipment of scrap titanium should arive at my dads work place,
the thing is i cant brush it, the surface that would result would shred the mose's leg thingys
