So all my friends are practically begging me to buy a "Black Ice" radiator for my h20 kit.... are they supposed to be really good or something? I ahve heard of them but I have never really looked into them. I have decided to try and go all danger den.. but I really want a rad that I can mount to my back 120mm area... can you do that with a black ice rad? Or is that only thermaltake that does that?

personally, i dont think black ice radiators are anything to rave about. they're painted black for one thing, and that decreases thermal efficiency. the design may be a little better than the average radiator... but you can only do so much within a given size short of a radical interior design that is completely a waste of money to mass produce.
the radiators to rave about are the home made ones. some people know what they're doing, and its usually them who try things like that. a fabricator/machinist with a little physics and chemistry knowledge can be quite a useful person to know or be.
on a side note, i saw a waterblock the other day that blew me away. honestly i dont remember where i saw it or what it was called, but it had a peltier in it, and it worked amazingly well. at idle it kept the cpu below freezing, and under load i think it maxed out at 10 degrees. ill see if i can find a link, because that would seem like a waterblock worth having.

Lol that sounds worth having.. unless of course you cant afford it :P
So I am just going to go with the thermaltake 120mm mount rad... at least then my rad and my cpu will match right? :P

ive seen water blocks with peltiers build in, i think i saw it at either coolerguys.com or frozencpu.com

Definately see if i can get me one of those!

If you don't want to replace your current waterblocks, you can buy a peltier and add it to your existing block. I know that FrozenCPU (http://www.frozencpu.com/scan/se=Water%20Cooling/se=Peltiers%20Kits%20and%20Coldplates/mp=menu_search.html) sells them for sure.
Swiftech sells some waterblocks with peltiers already installed if you don't want to install them yourself.

swiftech... that might have been the brand. it rings a bell, but its been too long for me to remember now. i have a selective memory that goes back three days at best.

I was thinking last night about adding peltiers to the reservoir or to the rad to help cool it off..
..coincidence? :D

I never heard of anyone adding it to the reservoir or the radiator. How will that work? Because you would need to find some way to cool the hot side of the peltier.

Ok ok... I had a dream last night. I JUST got my water cooling system and I installed it right? i know i know.. I'm a huge damm geek :D. But anyways, I just installed it and I checked my thermal status on the front of my computer and it said it was negative a billion degrees! The wierd thing was that I dont remember seeing any numbers.. but just saying it was a billion degrees and dancing around my house and yelling at my family that I was a genius and that I was going to be famous and stuff.
Now if that didnt make you laugh you have something seriously wrong with you. lol that or you are as normal as normal is. :D
I'm still waiting for the tbcs.com dream ;)

dont go for a pelt if you are going to permanently have it secured. They are unreliable and unsafe as far as condensation and other stuff goes

pelts are way to inefficient, they are good for a demo run or something, but way to unpractical for daily use, the thing will distroy your water block if give it to much juse at a low CPU load, the water will freeze, freezing water expands, so the block wil eventualy pop,

Will someone ok this for me? I want to make sure that I am not missing something. Or if something will not work or isnt compatible or whatever.
-Thermaltake 4005 Heat Exchanger (CPU)
-Thermaltake 12cm Big Radiator (Rad)
-Thermaltake A2017 Fan
- Danger Den MAG II LE (Pump)
- Danger Den Dual 3.5 Bay Reservoir (Res)
- Danger Den 3/8th Tygon Tubing
- Danger Den 3/9th Plastic Snap Tube Clamps
- Danger Den Fluid XP + EXTreme
- Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive
As a change of events has occured I have decided to only go with a CPU block for now. In the future I will most likely dual water cool my gpu's. But since I cant afford a second GPU I dont really feel the need to. (ASUS X1600XT Silent + Vivo)

i would prefer 1/2" tubing if i was you
MitaPi

Really? lol your probably going to hunt me down for this.. but why 1/2?
Silenced_Coyote

I think if you went for 1/2 inch tubing, you would would need a slightly better pump to keep up the high flow rates.
That "dream" you posted is actually a nightmare. Your CPU won't be running at all. It has an operating temperature range (which I can't remember what it is). Let's just say it is from -10C to 60C, so you would be out of the range.

1/2 gives more water, so there is better flow and your cpu stays cooler. And like above i would get a maze 4 and not a thermaltake water block

Ha ha, You have a point. But in my dream my computer seemed to work fine for all I know ^_^.
Are the MAZE 4's really that good? I always thought that the CPU block I am getting (Thermaltake Volcano 4005 Heat Exchanger) was pretty good? What would be the difference in temps?

Wrong-o.
Peltier coolers have two sides. A cold side, and a hot side. Attach cold side to CPU, attach hot side to waterblock. The cooler the hot side, the cooler the cool side. So while the temperature of the waterblock may be, for example, 30c, the CPU itself could be 10c or even lower.

Do pelts require more attention and more maintenence than say.. just a ordinary h20 kit? What kind of price tag are we talking here for a pelt?
Slug Toy
08-20-2006, 03:37 PM
the amount of attention depends on what you use a pelt for. in most cases, you have the cold side on a processor, and the hot side on a heatsink, and not much is needed. maybe a litte dusting now and then, a wipe with a dry cloth or something. its really in your best interest to keep ALL your stuff clean, so a pelt is no exception. best performance when dust free.

ic ic. So would I be able to use a pelt with my TT Volcano 4005 Heat Exchanger? If so... where is the best place to get one?

This (http://www.frozencpu.com/scan/se=Water%20Cooling/se=Peltiers%20Kits%20and%20Coldplates/mp=menu_search.html) is a good selection. Just make sure you read up really well on them before using one.
