IS there one pin on a vga cable that can tell something if the monitor is off or on?

cos what i wanted was an LED fader, that when the monitor switched off (after 15 mins of inactivity), made the LEDS fade in and out, like the pc was breathing.

i thought the easiest way would be to piggy back off the VGA cable, but i dunno if there is a pin that could trigger the fader.

Looks like Pin 11 (http://www.bbdsoft.com/video.html) is the way to go. Cheers-

maybe i should write an app in VB, to pass the input to a controller, so that i can control the whole thing from the pc.

might look into a serial controller, because it might be easier to control that way.

Pin 9 gives usually a 5v output. This would be the one I would use to work a switch. I have to check anyway to see if it switches off with powersaving, I'm pretty sure it does. I will dig out the multimeter on sunday and give you an answer then if its not too late?
