Do you have any mods running?
Are you trying to join a server who's version is diffrent from your own?
Do you have punkbuster enabled?
Do you have any cheats installed?
Try uninstalling the game (Optional: clean the registry entries). Install the game again and apply the patch.

I was just reading an article about BF2 and all it's problems and I had to stop and think if I had any of the issues that they were talking about. I RARELY have any issues whatsoever with BF2 and have never had the freezes or lockups that most have. Once in a great while I will get booted to the desktop, but that was before the 1.3 patch. Overall I would have to say that BF2 is no different than most other games I play with respect to crashes and bugs and stuff. Mark me in the happy _non_-camper column.

I have had this happen to me before, the only way I was able to fix it was by re-installing BF2 and BF2:SF

THe only problem i had with bf2 was caused by the settings. I put them up to high and my card couldnt handel it and would crash to the desktop. They tell you to restart the game for the new settings to take effect... They did allright, causing me lots of grief in the process.

Just remember to install the latest patch _after_ installing SF...
An try messing with your sound settings. I was only able to get good sound at high levels after upgrading to a sound blaster card away from the onboard audio. Before that it was jerky and unstable.

at first i thought this was the problem because thats what happend but i run better games higher and stuff so i dont think that was it , at the time i was running 512 mb of ram , so i got 1 gig of ram and for the first few weeks bf2 was running great and still is but its just special forces that crashes now
Maybe you should check the disc for any scratches, unless you purchased the game from EA Downloader.
