If you get around $300 then its handsdown the Radeon x1900 XT, it has a very nice piped cooling system.

Otherwise just get the regular x1900, its around $200 USD. It should play any game on highest detail, if that. But thats just taking it from an ATI guy, Nvidia people will tell you different.

Newegg.com Has the best deals anywhere.

Any X1900 (GT, XT) will do you wonders. I can play oblivion with my X300se on medium setting. Of course it works best on low though. So that just kind of gives you and idea (ATI Wise) of gaming performance. If you want the highest settings then get the X1900 or something close to it. If you dont play high end games or you just dont care a whole lot (meaning you want to save money) then get something a bit cheaper like the X300se or better.

www.newegg.com is the best retailer of just about anything and everything.

...and there shipping & handling deal is GREAT!

The best PCI grafix card is the Nvidia 6200 oc. Which is not very good at all.

NO WAY!!! Nvidia SUXS!!! the best card for you money is the ATI radeon X800 GTO2 the card is OC'd to X850 with 16 pipelines that thing screems!! soooo much beter then any Nvidia out there! the FPS on 3d mark 06 is something like 90 - 100 under stress!! I personally dont have the card but my friend has it. we OC'd and used 3d mark 05, 06, and 03. the score was something like 5000 or 6000 on 3d mark 06. if you have any questions PM me

SLI/Crossfire = waste of money unless high res

you would be better off getting one Radeon X1900XTX or something

Jarnauga
09-06-2006, 03:01 PM
Yes SLI and Crossfire show only a tiny increase in performance on the usual resolutions..

I bought a 7900GT TOP by Asus, and the benchmarks looked really promising.. but I'm afraid that card is a bit above your budget. :(
How much do the 7800GT's cost nowadays? Maybe that's an idea?

EDIT:

Oooh wait! Great Britain Pounds! I thought it said dollars or something. Well, since 250 GBP is 370 euros, you should be able to get one, I suppose

hi i was thinking about a x1900xtx but is it worth it with direct 10 cards coming soon

Chel

Probably since we're going to have to wait a while for dx10 and even longer for games that support it.

And what is wrong with what i said i have proof to back up my rant... oh if you are going to "flame" becuase i said "suxs" well, then maybe you should get a grip. I talk how i want to talk and usually i dont use words like sux or u or stuff like that. but i was being lazy! so there! lol:p

well you know... im sorry to say, but an x800 gto2 is last year's lower high end. theres plenty of nvidia stuff that wipes it off the table now. theres plenty of ati stuff that does that too. your rant has been blinded by... SCIENCE... and queue that song from so long ago.

i think the biggest thing is that you say an x800 is the best. thats just... moving backwards at an unbelievable speed. you cant truly believe that whole-heartedly, especially since you dont own the thing. getting 5000 or 6000 in 3dmark06 is impossible because the x800 will fail in the sm3 test (it doesnt do sm3, only sm2). and further to that... i have a 6800 ultra (which DOES support sm3) and im hard pressed to make it to 3000 on a good day.

Well i can get my friend to give a screen shot but thats what i saw when we used 3d mark 06... i am not trying to lie to make it look better or anything like that... I am not say its the "best" i am saying for the price that it is at right now its a great card. What i did say is it beats any nvidia out there and for that i would like to say that i am wrong. Slug toy you are right there are alot of things that would clearly smack that thing down with some force, but for $180... I mean come on... but i will retract my statement about the card being better then any nivida that was very childish of me to say.

At any rate i will stand by my saying that ATI is IN MY OWN OPINION (dont want to be rude with the caps lock, but i dont want some one to take what i say the wrong way.) is better then Nvidia. I have always had problems with Nvidia and when i switched to ATI i had much better results.

He's the moderator, so I am pretty sure his "grip" is just fine.

On the point: I am also an ati zealot, but also understand that nVidia has some pretty mean tech behind the chips (got a lot of it from sgi...), so I do respect them, not necessaarily as a company, but for the product they produce. I used to work for a company that would buy the latest "gaming" and "professional" cards from both company's and evaluate both the hardware and the drivers. For years ati had the better hardware, but thier drivers sucked. NVidia had the better drivers, but lacked in the HW dept (or should I say _lagged_?). I am not so sure that is true anymore (can't get my old company to release any evals...).

I got a nice laptop from Toshiba with ATI Mobility Radeon 9250 and 1 gb RAM w/a 100 GB hdd. Its saweet. But Nvidia and ATI both work great, esp. alienwares SLI's. I've tried one on a quad screen, and it was, once again, saweet lol.

justleftlife

well from my knowledge... If you are going to run SLI the first card gets 16x and the other either gets 1x or 4x something like that. Depending on the mobo specs you might not even want to go SLI, who knows. But i only found solid specs on the 7900 its looks good to me. they both have ddr3 mem and the pixel per clock might be alittle higher on the 7950.

sirkillalot617

dont worry about the mobo its an asus a8n 32 so it runs both cards at 16x

you cant use that, thats a crossfire master card, and im pretty sure it wont even work as a normal video card. I suggest a x1900gt its the same performance as a 7900gt and here in the states it goes for $200

listen to me when I say SLI is useless until you get into high res gaming.

Indybird
09-08-2006, 11:33 PM
Yeah I agree SLI/Crossfire is just for high-res gaming. I currently have a X1900XTX but my friend has a 7900GTX and I think they perform about the same except I can run AA and HDR at the same time and I can overclock more. I would recommend ATI X1900XT,XTX. If you want to go with a dual-card solution I would go with crossfire: there were a few tests where dual X1900XTX's outperformed a Quad-SLI configuration.

I would love to get my hands on a 1900 or 7900. I have a x700 and i think its damn good. I play BF2 on mostly high settings. I turn the dynamic lighting down. Who cares about a high def shadow anyway right :)

you mean 7900gt, the gs is agp not pci-e
edit: it seems that nvidia will come out with a 7900gs for pci-e to compete with the x1900gt. It seems like it will be a cheap 7900gt as to the fact that the 7900gt already competes with the x1900gt in performance but not price.

That card will blow your mind for the price. I have a X300SE that plays oblivion on the lowest of settings and it can play on medium with only a few glitches here and there. On a scale of 1 to 10 it is about a 1 or slightly more (or less), but it does me just fine. The X1900XTX is at least a 8.5. You'll be able to play the best of the best games on high. If I could afford it I would totally get it. That and if I ever get over my fear of having that much GPU power! :p

xtx if you can afford it. :D

Indybird
09-11-2006, 03:54 PM
you're not going to notice a huge difference, maybe 15 frames per second (sometimes that makes a difference, tho). You can overclock the XT to the XTX, so you can get the same performance of a stock XTX for less (But you wouldn't be able to overclock anymore. Or you could go with the X1950XTX...Just Kidding; those are like $100 more for a 10fps gain. If I were you I'd get the XTX since its only about $50 more and it can be overclocked to a higher speed.

Hope that helps, Indybird
