Sony has finally released the first Blu-Ray burner on the market! Here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827131034) it is on Newegg.com. Theres only one problem; ITS $700 DOLLARS  . I know this is a very early product and blu-rays are expensive and all that but $700!?
I think $400 at the most. :)

However, it would be interesting to try one of those out...

Hmm 50gb of data one disk. That is bigger then alot of people's HDD. Just wait its new they are using a market skimming price stratergy when sales pickup and more models comes to the market the price will drop.

*Load's shot gun*

Blu ray is a new format released by sony kinda like DVD but the blu ray disk can hold 50gb instead of a dvd which holds 4.7gb.

HOLY MUTHA! How do you go from 4.7 to 50?? lol

Can you use these disks for any kind of information? Files, Music, Games, etc., etc.

Does the drive have to be blu-ray to play the disks?

This is a pretty cool setup...

The same way you go from 700 mb to 4.7 gb. :p (CD to DVD)

Assuming their DVD burner is $100 less non-retail then that means 28% of the cost of that computer is the blu-ray drive!

I know its early in sales but DVD-RW Drives were $300 when they came out...

I read on Engadget that the PS3 will have a Blu-ray-ROM inside so it can play HD Movies. The drive won't burn Blu-ray's as far as I know though.

I heard this also. But as far as a gaming console goes... it wont burn anything. Just play things. But thats cool anyways because that means I dont have to go out and buy both a ps3 AND a blu-ray player.

I wonder what else we are to see in the future with this blu-ray technology?

Well, as games are getting much more graphically demanding (monster size texture files, etc.) maybe it's going to be like multiple DVD's (like some older games that came in 6 CD-rom packages) and maybe then blu-ray? If it ever becomes a new standard..
