i came up with the idea
you know the huge heatsinks for p4's and such...add it to a water block and run copper lines through the fins....

That was one of my previous ideas, but mine was more complex. I had the copper cooling tubes running through the frame of the case, and into the CPU block to cool the whole computer and case.

the idea is to cool thhe water and water block while being able to still cool the processor with a fan still....

I know! If you have an existing water cooling system, run the tubes through the frame and into the CPU. Someone should make a titanium heatsink for the CPU.

..just wanna do some constructive criticism...

do the water lines cross the base? or are you trying to cool the fins? :) a design like a labyrinth or a jet impingement block would be way better... if u do wanna mod a normal heatsink, think lots of chemical metal weld stuff and make a labyrinth/case in which you run water.. from the heatsink.. seen this done with p3 slot cpu's heatsinks :) nice idea..
also, it's not a good idea to just stick a heatsink on a water block.. the fins cool the tubes minimally and the two parts can never make good contact.. plus, there is very litle metal to conduct heat from the base to the fins.. water wont do this as fast as expected..
if u could make a good amount of metal exist in the sides.. then maybe.. and a one-piece aproach would again be better.. but a bit impossible :)

anyways, it's nice to see 3d enabling people to do research :) cheaper and non-distructive :)

4 years ago... when i was still a young grasshoper in 3dsmax.. i pondered the same thing.. i came up with this: (i'm a bit ashamed now, from a phisycs point of view..)

all these lil experiments have water pipes in their base... i don't think they would be better than a storm block ;) but i'm learning and i see others do too..

We should meld together our ideas of case and CPU.

Sorry I have to ask this what design software do you use??

Google Sketchup. It's free.
