Those cards are about equal, however the for the Radeon you can get a special version of the Catalyst driver that allows you to have HDR and Anti-Aliasing on at the same time, which no nvidia card can do.

its not worth the trade. they perform the same. the x1900 has the advantage of HDR and antialiasing at the same time. if you switch to a 7900, you lose that ability.

Stick with the X1900gt its better then the 7900gt.

The 7900GT is faster, but not enough to warrent the upgrade.

If you really must have more speed, you should be looking at a X1900XT/7900GTX or above.

if it was a 7950gx2 then yes do the switch. otherwise unless they offer two 7900 so you can run SLI then no, don't trade.

they say rule of thumb for upgrade is, you should notice almost a 50% increase in order to justify it.

and dont ever upgrade to 2 lower end cards to run sli. use the money to get one better one instead. room to upgrade later, and a single 7950gx2 will easy keep up with 2 7900gt's runnin SLI.

Sorry to resi this thread but I' am facing the current problem

The X1900gt seems to kick butt in Obilivion but falls Behind the 7900gt in CSS. Mainly where there is lots going on or there is AA/AF involved the X1900gt shines but otherwise the 7900gt wins out.

Does any one know if the X1900gt can be softmodded to unlock the four pipelines that are off?

Currently I' am leaning towards the X1900gt due to cheaper price at least $75 and where the 7900gt wins out it is only by a few FPS.

Aside from the technical advantage that the radeon has (HDR + AA simultaneously), those games don't really require that you have anything that powerful. Both my ATi Radeon X800se and 9800pro can handle those games rather well, as well as Prey, WoW, and some other things.

It's not worth it, stick with what you have.

Ok I will stick with 6800gt in the mean time. But those Core 2 Duo's are so shiny and I would need a PCI-E card to go with it as I have a AGP board.

"and a single 7950gx2 will easy keep up with 2 7900gt's runnin SLI"
Sorry to burst your bubble but it's been proven over and over again that it's exactly the opposite. Infact in some cases SLI 7900 beats Quad SLI 7950.

simon275, if you decide to go with the nvidia cards then i suggest you run the 7950 at 8xAA because that's where it gets it's greatest performances. It also beats the Radeon at that setting in most games.

If I was you I'd et a 7800 or somthing. I upgraded form a 6800 to a 7800, and Im happy I didn't spend the extra $$$ on somthing "better"

Long as it plays every game that is out, YOu don't NEED anything better.
