Read about it this morning. I hoped he would die doing what he loves, but 44 is about 30 years before I hoped it would happen.

I hear ya.
We will miss you Steve Irwin.
Not many people get to die doing what they lovingly devote their life to.
The real question is will stingrays be considered dangerous now?
Only 3 people in OZ have died from stingray attacks.
I feel sorry for his 2 kids, although they will have lots of hours of footage of their father.

He will be sadly missed. I would not say that nature got its revenge - as steve did great things for conservation and for nature generaly. He inspired a lot of people all over the world to respect the natural world and I for one have learn't a lot from watching his documentaries from a young age.
I realy hope that the video never reaches the internet.
why do I get the feeling that steve would have wanted everyone to see it though?
crikey!
H
They were filming a documentary about stingrays, so I bet it will eventually leak.

Yeah, those things somehow usually find their way onto our lovely Internet. My g/f told me about what happened when I got home from my bro's and the first thing I said was "Crikey". That's the kind of power the guy had when it came to the media. There aren't a lot of people out there nowadays that don't know the guy for his famous catchphrase. (He must be pretty popular seeing as though a computer forum and the rest of the Internet are talking about his death, considering that a person dies every minute at least. So that's how powerful the guy was.) You know what, whatever works. If he has to do put himself in danger to get people to listen to him and his messages then so be it. Thanks to him, quite a bit of people have new found respect for the environment and I for one learnt some pretty interesting facts from that truly nice man. There should be more people like Steve Irwin out there. My respects to his family and may he rest in peace.
Best regards,

Let him be a teacher to us all and let him rest in peace.
He has brought knowledge and understanding of the enviroment and also showed us just how enthusiastic you can be
really a shame that he died, though.

you know, i just heard about this today too. its everywhere all the sudden.
id hate to say it... but i dont think having your heart pierced by a stingray is a way to go, or exactly what he loved doing. i would imagine it was quite the ordeal because you take about 4 minutes to die from something like that... or at least 4 minutes to black out from blood loss. ill spare the details, but suffice to say most people would get sick from the sight.
on an interesting note, ive been experiencing something that is quite coincidental. for the past couple days my heart has been acting very odd and skipping beats regularly. the whole time, i felt a distinct lack of blood pressure and random pains in my chest. they stopped today... about two hours before i learned what happened. intriguing...

I'm pretty sure that I wasn't trying to say that he liked getting killed by animals, but he did love animals and working with them. Good joke?
I was trying to say that he loved working with animals, and that dying doing that is very fitting. Way better than getting fat and taking lots of drugs and a conspiracy with alien abduction and then having your title of "king" get taken away by Michael Jackson. See . . .animal death is way better.
I should add that I hated his show for the longest time. but that was because he was on every channel and at least one of the channels always seemed to have a marathon going on. My sister would watch it nonstop (which really was why I started hating it), so I didn't like the show, but I had no hard feelings toward him for it.

None of my mates actually likes him that much he is more liked by foreginers. When I first heard I laughed but then I remembered he had kids. Any way he will be missed as even though he was a bit of a tool he used alot of the money he earned to buy up and land and turn it into nature reservers.
Also he is leaving a wife and two kids behind so that is sad. :(
They are going to hold a state funeral for him in his honour. As he promoted Australia aboard. and futhered the protection of wildife.
Our Prime Minister John Howard said he went out an Australian way killed by a sting ray snorkelling on the great barrier reef.
Something more tech related that is relevant a number of news sites in Australia crashed due to the volume of traffic of people loging on trying to read about the death.

I tell you what...he was a real man even in death...the stingray barb pierced his heart and before the poison killed him...he pulled the friggin thing out. That's a real man right there...if he had a beard I would nominate him as the Australian Chuck Norris...
He will be missed.
OY! Look at the size a' that one! Crikey!
Steve was great. Yes he was kinda asking for it. But its one of those things that pains you to hear. Especially with the children left behind. He did so much for conservation (even though I'm the exact opposite of a conservationist, but he did alot to preserve what little true wild we have left). He did bring a special something to things that people just didn't care about before. He got people interested in wildlife and always had a great additude about it. And he always said that if he were to die, he would want it to be on film, he got his wish.
RIP Steve.
