Hey all... just starting to get the itch to do more than the occasional, strip down, paint, reassemble and route wires. This is by far one of the best sites as far as actual responses and such... so~

I have an idea to mod a case. With a highly ambitious vision in mind, I want to do it right, all the way through planning and into execution. That being said, I would welcome advice and opinions.

I ripped apart a no-name case I had gotten a year or so ago before I put my rig in a Thermaltake Shark. It is a mid-tower atx case. An hour of de-popriveting later, I had the workings of a raw case.

Now, on to the actual theme/mod:

To honor the amazing work of Bethesda, I want to make an Oblivion mod. I have planned it as a wider than normal case by a few inches to make it possible to house a double wall. The space between the wall of the case and the wall you see externally would be wired for LEDs to light spaces of plexi.

One side of the case would be a professionally printed Oblivion gate, complete with crackling-like lighting effects as cutouts. The sky and the gate itself would look wicked cool, I am thinking.

The other side of the case would be a print of the Imperial City from a distance, where you could see the tall tower and such, with a beautiful sky as the cutout for the plexi and lighting.

I would angle back a normal width front to meet the wider sides and have etched "The Elder" on one side and then "Scrolls IV" on the other of these angled metal pieces (or possibly glowing plexi) and then beneath the power buttons and such (where the intake fan would be) have the game's symbol , the one that looks like pi kinda, in nice glowing lightedness.

I would like to incorporate water-cooling, though I have always been more an extreme air-cooler before.

Anyways... ideas? Comments? Opinions? Suggestions? Tips? Tricks? Screencaps for nomination into the sides of the mod? lol!

Welcome to the board.
You have a cool idea.
next thing to do is start planning it out, either on paper of CAD. Google SketchUp is free. Take you time (and lots of pictures) and post your progress on here.

Good luck.

okay, I found the case make and model and the dimensions.... and now I am firing up SketchUp.

Apex/Supercase PC-302 300W ATX Mid Tower Case (Black/Silver)

Mine came with a 400W AL-a400ATX ps, but the case is the same.

*sketchup-ing*

so. to get familiar with SketchUp, I did a model of the case of when it was together.

compare that to

and

anyways, there's my first stab at working with SketchUp...

now to model the mods! agh!

You know if it looks good maybe Bethesda would sponsor you :p

Ever consider making a big blowhole in the front and make that look like an oblivion gate? For example make the gate out of whatever material you use then sort of like Defyants one mod with the cone thing in front of the fan put that one machine with legs that is shown in the games opening scenes.

I know that probably doesnt make sense lol

but here on the front you could make something like this http://pixels.xoditech.com/Oblivion3.jpg

heres another neat picture I found http://www.clandlan.net/images/juegos/tes/gate.jpg

i want the oblivion gate to be bigger, to occupy one of the sides.

really really really rough planout:

i would like some ideas as to how to pull the images out and make a 3d extension off the case, similar to the Doom3 mod... although I could never get close! lol

thanks chel-- those are some nice shots. does anyone else have some to post links or anything to? i would like to choose the best i can find, the mod depends on perfection ;-) !!!! lol

You need to get familiar with modelling materials. I'm not the expert on this, but browsing the forums you'll find all the answers you need.

yes, i see a ton of relevant information, bondo, kit-bashing ;-) etc. what i was thinking of asking for was more the art versus the how-to.

like, pulling out a base on the oblivion gate side, i could have the spikey horns out of the ground, a few of them to pull the image into 3d.

but what of the imperial city? or is there a better image type, to contrast between oblivion and goodness.....
