Hi Guys

As some of you may know not to long ago I completed Project Far Cry. It got me 1st place at xLAN for which I received a shiny medal and a very nice Silverstone TJ07. There is no way I could get a case like the TJ07 without modding it, so here is the start of my project log.

Incase someone felt like pointing out the obvious… I know flames have been done before :P But I like them, so I’m going to put them on my case :P Not to sure on the project name yet but I can always change that later. As the name suggests the case will involve the colour Candy Blue. The plan is to strip the black finish from the TJ07 then paint the case a nice gloss black. After that will add in the flames in silver go over the whole case in candy blue then finally a couple of clear coats. I will also be doing some acrylic work in the case inside and out. Most of the plans at the moment are just ideas in my head so I cant show you to much in the way of pics.

Haven’t done much yet, just spent my free time at work the last couple of days drawing out the design on the side panel. I just want to check out that it’s all right then tomorrow I cut!

That’s all for now, hopefully another update tomorrow.

Well its 4am over here at the moment and I just finished redrawing the flames on the side panel. Someone on another forum suggested they weren’t very random and all looked kind of the same. Unfortunately I agreed with him so ripped off all the tape and started again. Probably would have done it even if he hadn’t commented :P

I did this lot a little faster in the hope it would look a little more random then went through and fixed them up a little. They still look quiet similar but I am much happier with them. This time I haven’t included the smaller flames at the font of the panel as they don’t need to be there till I start painting which isn’t for a while. This is just to show me where to cut for the window.

This next pic I did on the other side panel which I have absoloutly no reason to draw on at the moment, I’m actually not sure why I even masked it off. Unfortunatly the only marking pen I had when I did this was green. This pic is just to show the effect I’m going for. The final panel will of course have better drawn flames, the masking tape colour will be gloss black and the green pen will be candy blue.

That’s all for now, time for me to go to bed.

I just got back in from cleaning up the garage. I didn’t get a whole lot done because I had to do another job for Mum. The window has been cut out on the side panel and just needs to be sanded and neatened up.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/TJ07001sidecut07092006.jpg

Probably wont get much done until the start of next week as I need to get some Perspex to do some work on the inside of the case. So that’s all for now :) Thanks Guys.

Finally got back to doing some work on the case today. I didn’t take to many pics of the work as I went as there wasn’t too much to show on how I did things. So ill just post a few shots of what it looks like now. I decided just doing a little Perspex work inside and a paint job wasn’t enough for me so I now have a new goal of now screws being visible from the outside of the case (excluding the bottom cos ya don’t see that). I also wanted to do something to hide the wires at the back of the computer so they all just come out the bottom near the floor. Hopefully this will make the case and area round it look a whole lot neater and more sleek.

As you can see from the last bit moving everything forward has put the mobo tray in the way of the top fans. So I am going to have to get some aluminum welding rods and ad a bit in the top there to move the fans closer to the front. I think in the end it will look better any way because it will bring the top hole into the same line as the window and the grill on the side panel. Much to do, I am thinking of adding some cooler master fans and lights etc and entering it in the cooler master modding comp, this would mean it needs to be finished by the end of next month so I better get working on it. All for now, look out for an update in the next few days.

Thanks man, yep the case is definitely a nice one!

Thanks for the kind words! I actually still have a little work to do cleaning up the edges of the flames.

MAN! That looks sweet! I have sudden urge to go out and buy a TJ07 now! :D

lol thanks. Yes buy a TJ07 and mod it! It would be interesting to see what others do with this case. Haven’t seen any mods of them around really, I think a lot of people are scared to start cutting into them because of their price…. I know I would think twice about doing some of the things I have if I actually had to pay for this case :P

Hmmm dude... if i pay for ur train up 2 mine will you do me some flames like that o.O

lol the flames aren’t that hard to do, the secret I found to drawing them is not to try to hard or they turn out all the same >_<

Update time. I was struggling to think of things I could do on the case without going out and getting some supplies but managed to think of some things to do on it tonight. I will be going out later in the week to pick a few things up so I can really get working on this mod. Here is the progress for the night.

I started out by marking out the top where I needed to move the fans. Originally I was going to make a new grill that the fans mounted to but I decided I couldn’t be bothered trying to find any mesh so just used the standard one. If you look closely at the pic you should be able to se my marks for cutting.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07001.jpg

Next up I added some more masking take to the areas where the jigsaw would be resting on the case and then it was time to cut. Fun job cutting into the 4mm thick top of the TJ07!

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07002.jpg

Here you can see a problem which wasn’t hard to predict. The mounting holes no longer line up.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07003.jpg

Seeing I didn’t have a suitable tap to put a thread in without going out the other side I decided to come up with another way to mount the top fans to save buying a tap I would use only once. Lucky for me I kept the aluminum I had cut out of the side panel because it came in useful for this job. First off I marked out and cut a straight edge.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07004.jpg

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07005.jpg

Then cut a couple of strips (didn’t take a pic of both)

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07006.jpg

Drilled a few holes and filed them up.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07007.jpg

Works perfectly! The fan mount is held in tight and even though you wont see them they don’t look to bad.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07008.jpg

Top view, here you can see where I am going to have to weld a piece back into the case once I get some rods later in the week.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07009.jpg

Only other thing I managed to get done was cut the mount for the psu at the bottom so it would fit into the case. If all goes to plan you wont see much of this when the case is complete.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07011.jpg

Finally a shot of the whole case as it is at the moment. In this pic you can also see the fan mount at the top and how it now lines up with the fan grill at the bottom and the case window at the back. It will look much better once I have that piece in there to fill the gap.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/300906TJ07010.jpg

That’s all for now people. Hopefully I will be working on the case again tomorrow if I can find things to do so look out for another update soon.

Gosh, I actually got out to the garage two days in a row! Managed to find a few more things to do on the case but once again ran out of material before I managed to get all done that I wanted to.

I started out by fixing the little problem shown in the next pic.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07001.jpg

As you can see from the pic there is a little bit of aluminum showing through the window from moving the back forward. The next pic show the soloution… CUT IT!!!

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07002.jpg

Roughly cut out. I did file and sand it up after this so it looks much better then in this pic.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07003.jpg

Next issue was the fact that as you can see in the next pic the side panels had no way of being held on!

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07004.jpg

I decided to use the existing holes in the back of the computer and just modify the side panels to attach them.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07005.jpg

Mark out the cut.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07006.jpg

Cut

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07007.jpg

Neaten up the cuts and drill a few holes and this is what you get. It will be welded to the side panel later in the week.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07009.jpg

Here you can hopefully make out how its going to work. Basically the side panel will be mounted in exactly the same way as it was before.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/Zero_Limits2006/011006TJ07008.jpg

That’s all for now. I have a defensive driving course to go to tomorrow night so I can get my full license so I won’t be doing anything on it tomorrow. I will hopefully have an update up later in the week once I have some more materials though.

Thanks for reading or looking at the pics.

Nice mesh! The computer looks great, but something needs to be done with the right hand side.

Don't get the name though-where does the Candy Blue come in? If you've changed your name, i'll rename your thread for you. If i'm just missing the bigger picture then i'll stay quiet from here onwards ;)

Thanks for the comments!

All should become clear soon. Both with the right hand panel and the name. The right hand panel will actually have a similar flame design painted on and hopefully a sponsor logo. The Candy Blue comes from the colour it will eventually be painted. Black with white flames then Candy blue over the whole thing. Should give the case a neat effect where the flames are nearly invisible from certain angles and a nice blue tinge to the black it will also turn the white flames blue.

I wasn’t really happy with the name for the project, but I had to start working on it and that was the best I could come up with. I am open to suggestions to a new name for the project :D
