I picked this old Tandy TRS 80 up at a flea market for $5.oo .Got this crazy idea of gutting it and installing modern components . This will be my first attempt at something like this but i think I can handle most aspects except replacing the old CRT screen. Would like to replace it with an LCD. CRT is approx. 8 by 10 inches. Need suggestions as to what type to use and what else I would need to buy in order to install.I plan on using an ATX mobo with a mid range video card. Any links for this type of mods, where to buy, info etc. I;m a retired 56 year old construction worker who is a computer geek wannabe.I'd attach a pic if I knew how! Thank,Ed.

welcome to the boards Ed.
Retro mods are cool.
for the CRT replacement you should be able to hack a LCD display for a car DVD. MP3PlayerStore.com (http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_you_need/special/index.html) list a bunch of them, Most are 5-7 inches but it gives you a good idea what to look for.
Also I don't remember the dimensions of the trash 80 but it seems to me you'll have a hard time squeezing in an ATX board, you might want to look into and ITX. here's a good place to start for info on them mini-itx.com (http://www.mini-itx.com/)
start a worklog (with pictures) and good luck.

Thanks! This thing measures approx 18 1/2 in wide 20 in deep and 12 in tall, the keyboard takes up about 6 in of the depth. I'm flexible as to what parts to use. at this point I'm just trying to do some research as I am working away from home for a few weeks, puttin in the 320 hrs my pension fund allows me to work.

CRT is approx. 8 by 10 inches so diaganal measurement will be 12.8". That tigerdirect lcd housing is 15.1" x 15.5" so I don't think it would fit.

gaz-yes the photo you posted is the same as mine-(photo didnt show when you posted but does now!??).I've done some looking and found a place called Earthlcd. They make a card which allows a lcd to accept a anolog signal. Not cheap but I think this would be easier for me than trying to hack an lcd tv or portable dvd player. Have zero knowledge of electronics! Has anyone used the earth lcd cards ? Any advice ,tips thoughts ?? Thank,Ed
