Wanted: Gothic/Ninga/Technological Black theme

Hey

I've got a 1.6ghz laptop thats got a fuxed keyboard/mouse, and its begging to become a modded media center...

I've pulled it apart, and figure with a few wire extensions on the screen cable, I'd be able to rotate the screen to where the bottom of the laptop used to be, and adding two 12cm fans at the back for cooling (this laptop has severe overheating problems due to toshiba being dumb)

So basically my laptop will look like this CPU etc facing outwards -> }{ <- screen. This will have plexi over the motherboard to prevent damage, but I still cant figure out what kind of theme to use, so i'm asking you to throw suggestions at me.

Currently I've been thinking a cool industrial-gothic looking case (ie wires everywhere, scorch marks, etc), or something to do with like martial arts, ie ninja stars etc... But havnt been able to think of an idea I really like

I do however, know what I dont want... That is, I dont want a movie/game theme, or something I'd get bored of easily, I know making a doom3 case looks mad, but only until the doom 3 phase wears off.

I honestly can't picture that Goth idea looking good. I whole "unorganized industrial" look would just look bad.

I'm not really into lighting in computers, there disruptive, and when not done well look cheesy, a perfect example is 90% of the computers with lights in them at LAN's...

Its pretty close-minded to say that generalized idea's might not work, mashie (http://www.mashie.org/)'s ideas, although look cool, would have sounded crap if he said "I Know!, i'll do a Y2k bug computer!!!111". Its pretty much a fact that, if you know how your going to do something, and know exactly how its going to turn out, you can make any idea look awesome

I know exactly what you're saying. I'm not too in to lighting either. I was just throwing the idea out there.

Since you're the one with the idea why don't you throw some more descriptive ideas or pictures out? It would help greatly.

A ninja theme case would be cool, and by cool, I mean totally sweet.

Maybe you could merge goth and technology together or ninjas and technology together. Not sure if that would suit your taste but that might be cool.

My advice, would be to try to narrow down what you're going for. For instance, there's plenty of games out there with ninjas that are ripe for a good mod, like Tenchu, Ninja Gaiden, etc. Similarly, there are plenty of tv shows, cartoons, even movies like Ninja Scrolls for example. If I were going to go for a ninja theme, I'd go with a particular ninja theme. That way, you have a lot to draw from. And another suggestion, name wise: Black Lotus.

The one thing I hate is when people use UV's and put in those yellow fans. They bug the heck out of me. Just get a clear fan if you were to get one with UV's ( I love UV's).

The advantage of having that laptop hardware is you're going to be able to make a very sleek media centre with a small footprint. What I would do is create a small case around 3" wide by 10" tall and 10" long, or whatever you choose.

If you look at the Bio-hazard case on the main page of Bestcasescenario you can see the slime is done in three dimensions, what you could do is make a similar design out of Cyborg Ninja (the graphic on the side of that case) but leave small trench-like depressions where his armor plates meet, you could then put small tubing in those trenches to run watercooling through before it hits the resevoir. So to the person looking at it they would see a three dimensional cyborg ninja on the side of your case with veins of tubing running between the cracks in his armor carrying coloured coolant, or you could use EL wire in there, your choice.

Personally I think it would look amazing white, but it's your call on that one.

These ideas do not incorporate a gothic or black theme, I just can't seem to get the idea of gothic and ninja to go together in my head.

On a side note I seem to make excellent Chilidogs.

The whole laptop idea is on hold due to my other idea being more likely to go ahead in the near future (Wooden HTPC) (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?p=46736#post46736)
