I need to build a few little circuit boards for a little project I'm doing. I've never done it before though, so I need to know where to get stuff. How to do it can come later.

I need a variety of resistors, a couple capacitors, and some chips, plus the pcb. Would Radioshack have that stuff, or do I need to order online from somewhere?

Radio Shack: "you've got questions.... (what you think we have answers for what they pay us, get lost.)"

last time I was in there looking for heat shrink tubing the duffus couldn't find it so he handed me zip ties. IF you know what you need THEN go to RadShaft but don't expect them to know parts like they used to (be especialy carefull of resistors! know how to read the striped coding just incase they got mixed up).

I haven't made any boards myself but I've been impressed with this webpage.
Bowden'd hobby circuts (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Bill_Bowden/homepage.htm#menu) He has some links on the bottom to suppliers. I think he knows what he's talking about.

Well, I know exactly what parts I need since I'm following a tutorial for something, so that won't be a problem.

And that guy has some interesting ideas, but I'm not ready to attempt any of them yet. 8)

Where you from?

I guess that online is the best place to go. I use Farnellinone.com in the UK. Very good service for an online retailer.

What project are you doing?

I live in Florida, land of much sun and thunderstorms.

I'm working on converting several game controllers (NES, PS, N64, etc.) to work with a computer. Trying for usb for most, but I've only found a parallel port for the N64 so far.

Farnell and Newark inone direct are one in the same I believe. Newark operate stateside.

Farnell have a minimum order, but it is not something that has bothered me before.
