hey, how would you suggest getting into modding for cash. how should I get started

Try asking around with your friends. Do some mods for your friends first, and you'd better make them damn good. Don't charge to much when you're gooding started. If they're really good, you can build up a resume and eventually start getting bigger projects, with sponsored parts, sponsor themes, etc.
