Well, I just got the last parts for my computer. Yay! Well, not really.

I have everything hooked up and I know it is all done correctly. BUT, all that it does is turn on. Like, lights and fans and stuff. No video signal, no HDD activity, CD Drive doesn't open. :( . I'm thinking it's my mobo, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!
Maleficus

Edit: Ok, I need to clear one thing up. 1 speaker beep is good right? 2 is bad?

Well, what's zero?

Yep, I'm an idiot. I got so caught up with putting it together and using it, I forgot there was a 12v connector on the motherboard.

Duh.....

But, my CD drive still doesn't work. Ideas on that?

Edit: Ok, more progress, whether it be forwards or backwards I don't know. It seems as though my motherboard doesn't like my CD drive and HDD on the same IDE channel. And I only have 1 IDE channel. Crap.

New HDD time? I think so. SATA, here I come.

check the jumper settings on the HDD and the CD-rom.
they might both be set from the factory as cable selected.
I'd set the HDD as the master and the D as te slave.

I set the CD to slave, but I haven't checked the HDD. I think it is set to master already, but I'm not sure. I'll check it out though.

Edit: Ahhh... HDD was set to slave too... All is well now...

Yes, I believe my n00bness is showing.

I am too lol.

Anyways, I now ran into a problem that isn't a common sence, "Check that this is connected..." or one of those. I am trying to install Ubuntu, and when the message "Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting th kernel" or whatever it is comes up, my HDD will randomly make the sound it does when you first turn on the computer.

Hmmm....

sounds like a dodgy hard drive. you mean the sort of click, twang, cringe inducing noise? mine did it. take it back, get another one.

Yep, that's it.

To bad I can't take it back... I pulled it from another PC.
Oh well, I was planning on getting a new one anyways.
