For some jackass reason, my motherboard bios through a bad bios checksum cycle fit which took about 3 hours to fix. Then when i got through the bios, it just leapt straight into windows to get a new activation code without any need to do a repair install.

This ever happened before?

My old mobo was a **** A8N-SLI with a loud fan and my new one is the A8N32-SLI with the heatpipes goin on.

ive heard of it before, but only with relatively the same hardware, which is what you have in your case. not too much different on those boards, cept for the True x16 SLI

its not unheard of, but def not the usual outcome after swapping boards.

Windows will try to re-activate after changing a certain number of system componants. Change one or two inconsequential(sp?) parts and no big deal (drives or memeory or proc), but change one or two major componants (mobo alone will cause a re-activation) and windows needs to re-ativate. I have even heard of someone reflashing the bios and changing the proc and windows will want to re-activate. I heard a nasty rumor that with vista this is even more of an issue, but I do not have vista so I cannot confirm this.
