Hi, I've been looking this forums for a long time and now it's my time ^^
I have a Cooler Master Centurion 5, and I decided to do it something. I saw some engraved cases and a few weeks ago I found a picture that inspired me. The engrave it's almost done, it's my first worl of this kind. Made with dremel obiously.
Tomorrow I'll finish it and I'll add more pics. What do you think?

i think it's very nice.. the detail is amazing.. and ake me wonder.. how did u get the lines? are they painted after the engraving? or did u manage to do such a hi-resolution engraving that the paint i see is the case's? anyways, congratulations! this is one nice piece of work! u should seal the metal with some clear coat to avoid rusting or oxidation :) again, A+ from me!

OMG Awsome job!
What tip(s) did you use in the dremel?

Thank to all. Let's answer.
To dgrmkr: I printed the draw and fixed it to the side panel, then used the dremel to do the outlines. Next step is remove the printed draw and fill it.
To Cevinzol: I used the 105 bit (is Spain has that number), it's the 0.9mm engraving bit.

This engraving is great! I really like how you used the paint from the side panel as the outline for the engraved picture. Are you planning to do anything else to your case?

I finished it!! I havent posted earlier because I had problems with my ISP.

To Silenced_Coyote: I'm going to do a graphic equalizer (with leds) to put it in a 5.25" bay. I want to add a 5" LCD in another bay or a wide 19" in the other side panel. Maybe a window and some more engraving.

thats amazing. you are truly a god among men. thats the best engraving ive seen, cept for laser engraves (but they cheat :P)

Slug Toy

impressive. thats all i can say.

they have metal engraving tools other than lasers too. its like giving sheet metal a tattoo, without ink. i used one of them to engrave a ring once. it gets you good results too, and you can probably control the "shading" better than a dremel. i dont know if you can do steel, but i know you can do aluminum and copper.

but anyways... that silver on black really does it for me. ive always like silver on black.

Well, I've done a little bit more.

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/6595/letters001ge9.th.jpg (http://img171.imageshack.us/my.php?image=letters001ge9.jpg)

I'm only going to engrave another desing to the side panels, in the bottom I'll "write" phrases from the Apocalypse with the font used in Diablo game. One in each panel (left and right respectively):

et vidi angelum descendentem de caelo habentem clavem abyssi et catenam magnam in manu sua
et adprehendit draconem serpentem antiquum qui est diabolus et Satanas et ligavit eum per annos mille

In the front I'll use the same mesh of the case to create a cover for the optical drive, but it's only the first thing. Any idea/question/opinion will be wellcome :P

Wow .

Nice work you skill is excellent. What tools do you use to engrave so well. I bet you have been practicing for a long time though.

You definitely have a knack for engraving. Keep doing it. Fantastic picture.

alright... that does it... this has inspired me to do something with engraving when i decide to start my own case project. i just need an idea to work with, and an actual physical case too... that would help a lot.

PD: A friend of mine has the same case and told me to do some "Hellboy" engraving, I think I'll accept the offer ^^

To gaz_the_chav: no shipping at the moment sorry :D
To simon275: Dremel and 105 bit. No practicing before, as the title says it's my first engraving.
To DaveW and SnowFire: very human precision, see 2nd picture.
To Slug Toy: glad to inspire you, it's my first engraving but I'll do some more if I can.
To all: thanks for your comments, and any ideas for the rest of the case?

Make the sides look like marble colums covered in vines.
That's the only thing that popped into my head.

How quickly do you wear down your bit?

that looks SWEET!

oh my god, i think i soiled myself, jks, but reallly, thats just awesome, and your first time? jeez.

I have just got a rotary tool, not a dremel but it should do, what sort of speeds did you do that with? mine will spin between 8,000 and 30,000 rpm. Will any engraving bit do, thats similar to the 105? Thanks in advance for the help

Kenny_McCormick
10-14-2006, 07:13 AM
Thanks nzcubey. For engraving use the lowest speeds of the Dremel, it allows you to control much more the draw and prevents heating both metal and tool. You can use any engraving bit but 105 is the finest one and you can do more detailed desings. You can also use 106 and 107 to fill big zones.

An advantage of my ideas, simmilar to nil8 ones (thanks dude). In the front, in both clear aluminium "columns" I'll engrave some feathers and after that paint the oultines in black. Sweet? I think so :P

Thank to all. Let's answer.
I printed the draw and fixed it to the side panel, then used the dremel to do the outlines. Next step is remove the printed draw and fill it.

hey im just wondering, how exactly did you do that? just print it onto paper? or did you use some kind of vinyl? im really excited after seeing this case, i have a white alu case sitting in my room beggigng to be my first test dummy. (i found a small engraving piece like the 105 (in my new rotary tool kit), i think its a bit bigger, but meh :P)

Just printed it in DIN A4 paper (default paper size used in Spain) and fixed it with tape, don't know the name in english, it's a single face tape made of plastic and transparent about 2 centimeters wide which is used to stick papers.

oh ok, well i had a go, but i just printed a design on paper, then used a inky cd pen, and went slowly over the lines, it went through the paper onto the panel, then i used my dremel on it, it came out sweet, and for my first go, im pretty pleased. sorry i dont have anyways to take a picture of it, as my sister has my camera. edit! I LIED i had my webcam, GENIOUS! lol here it is!

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/4195/firstengravingwebcamtm6.jpg
the picture really doesnt give it justice, but meh, it looks friggin sweet irl

(also i found out my flexible shaft is crappy, instead of just rotating around, it vibrates from side to side, so when i was using a needle engraver, it was like a 2 mm line when you pressed down, lol) actually i was gnna ask you weither you used one or not, as holding the tool seems kinda extreme

Thanks for all your help, this has inspired me heaps, cya!
