Does anyone have any experience with Ionic air cleaners? specifically I need to know what kind of airflow they produce (cfm estimate). To put it simply how do they compare to mid-level pc fans for air output b/c they are silent and pc fans, well, aren't silent. Spefically, does anyone think they would they move enough air to cool any radiators?

I can get them on ebay for pretty cheap and I'll be building my own housings from sratch so external looks are a non-issue.

my first thought was that it would be a bad idea. now this is only based on the commercials, but dont thoes things have magnets in them?

Many things have magnets in them, harddrives, case fans, but they're used right. Magnets are only a problem if you put a powerful of directly on your harddrive.

If I use one, then I'll probably just build it from sratch as high voltage transformers are fairly cheap and most of the other supplies are cheap and easy to come by. I may build one just for the fun of it and then I guess I can find out what kind of the airflow they produce the old fashoined way (experiment!). I'm a physic's major and one of my professors thinks it is an interesting idea and has agreed to help, so I should haven't to worry about blowing anything up, lol.

Arcs are pretty and all, but...

Already posted in the other topic but the article on inventgeek is apparently misleading read http://www.hackaday.com/2006/09/17/ion-system-cooling/#comments
