Well, my XBox Controller (big original ones, not these small ones) had the wire cut since it was half-cut from the use, now while waiting for my father to get some shrinktubing to repair it I thought about modding it.
Basically, these controllers uses USB interface, and I dont know how much power they use. I thought about lighting it a bit using LEDs, bu tI would need to remove the xbox dome from the controller, and it's a bit risky for the controller to break in two. But I could always try something with that.
Any ideas of what I could do with my ''USB controller'' so it can looks cooler? Thanks!

1. paint it pink!
2. do something to the buttons. you never see any xbox mods with the controller buttons modded

i believe USB has a +5v line. look for a wiring diagram on google.

Theres also one floating around somewhere on putting lights in all the buttons etc, but I cant find it at the moment.

Just like this one. The only mod I would do to the buttons would be to add lights to them. I won't paint them or modify them in any other way, they are so unique (glassy plastic reflecting the letter and the color). Il ltry to take pics of the buttons next time I open the controller.
And yes, it has a 5V line. And the controller itself happen to be a 3-port USB hub; one of them is taken by the controller, and the two others are for the memory cards/microphone, and other stuff. So I don't think the controller takes that much juice from the 5V line (I think USB has a 500mA power limit?)
And I was thinking about putting leds in the memory slots. Here's a picture of a modded slot, but it shows how they are made.

Without the USB port, of course. I could place two leds in each port.
Now, a color scheme. I thought about painting a fading red to black, and a red theme for leds.
Your thoughts? Thanks! :)

You must have used the wrong type of resistor, chedabob.

My guess is that he only used leds without any resistors, and the resistor on the controller did went out.
And resistors are quite hard to kill. When we made our stroboscope at school 2 years ago, a guy placed his resistor on the other side, and the whole thing was making some spark noises before the stroboscope would start. We opened the ****, and the resistor was sparking. And altho the strobo would start after a while, we didnt want the whole thing to burn, so I unsoldered it and replaced it with a new one on the right side. I replaced his **** since I was one of the best in the class with electrical component.
And well, my father forgot to bring the shrinktubing again, so that will let me a bit more time to get ideas about it.
Do I need to know the exact led power if I wanna try something in my gamepad? cause I have no idea how powerful the leds I own are. I think Im going to use some bright white leds, except they work on 1.2V (those little solar lamps weve got outside.. well, they are quite bright). Is there a way to place the 5V voltage to ~1.2V and having the correct amperage so they wont burn? Il ltry to measure the power they use with my multimeter, and as well the correct voltage.
