flip up dvd-rom, good for a mod

i found this dvd-rom (http://www.shentech.com/flslcoexusb2.html). i think it could be integrated into the top or side of a case, maybe have a plexi window... hope someone likes it

only down side is its external USB meaning it will be alot slower

its a slim optical drive with the usb interfase... all slim drives have the same typical mount on the back of them you would just need to get one that converts to a 44 or 40 pin ata

you can mod standard drives to do that.

how will you get the drive to register that you just put a cd in?

you could : mod the drive system to the lid instead, then when you press the button, lid opens. when you press it again, it closes. that would be pretty cool.
