This is seriously pissing me off, and if i can't get it fixed i'm going to be spending another $200-300 on a new motherboard. :(

background information:
I use an ASUS M2N-Sli Deluxe, non-wireless edition. I have isolated the problem to where I know it is not the OS. ;_;

Problem:
Half of my USB ports don't work. Power is routed and everyhing (my mousepad is receiving power from a problematic USB) But only four (two on the motherboard, two on my case) are actually functional, with the ability to detect peripherals. Help!

did you try taking things apart.. assmebling them on a bench (no case.. everything outside.. seems easier but you could skip this..), then trying each header separately.. with some usb.pci thingies.. i mean, usually there has to be another problem besides mobo defects.. try to disassemble stuff and put it back.. maybe some connections are not right.. fried/defective mobos are.. the worst case scenario.. :( try again.. don't give up so easily

Where are the broken ports? Are they on the back panel or on the case?
