How often do you check the front page?

1) Well I bookmarked the frontpage at first.
2) then skipped it and went straight to the forums.
3) Then they said they would be updating the front page regularly so I re-bookmarked it.
4) but it hasn't been updated in over a month so I open it and imedeatley hit the forums link on the top of the page.

There should be an update over the next couple of days. This site eats about 3 hours average of my life on a daily basis, but when I have the time, I try to get articles out there. I'm wanting to make the front page my priority by Christmas, and bring it back into the TBCS fold.
Also, I think this information would interest Crimson greatly.

At home I have the front page book marked and at work the forums are book marked. Even at work I usually check it once a day, but that is just the geek in me.
Can't get enough of the TBCS!

So that you guys know why things have been slow - basically, life has been crazy. Once I got settled in to the new place, I was able to dedicate some more time to this place, but a lot of that time went to our "other" project, and preparing for the contests, such as PAX and the Modder's Challenge. As soon as I got back from PAX there was a death in the family, and I have been spending a lot of time trying to take care of loose ends and such. Things have smoothed out a bit more recently, and so we should be able to get things set up for more frequent updates, but we really can't commit to the three-times-a-week updates like we had at one point.
When it comes to front-page content, though, what do you like to see? Forums announcements? Contests? Reviews? News?
Thanks.

All those things sound good. If I knew that I would find nice things like that on the home page, I would definately check it every time I sign on.
Also, hardware and software deals would be good. Like a "Deal of the Day" where you would list like a nice sale on stuff, that would be sweet too.
I first came to the forums, not the site. I also have the forums as one of my quick link things for firefox (the links above the tabs). That's how I come here every time.

Maybe when you do the forum revamp make a scipt which posts a item on the front page once a week that has the top 5 most viewed worklogs from the worklogs section.

I've bookmarked the board and generally skip the front page.

I'm not surprised by these results. Thanks for being honest guys-this is important information.

Good idea, but a bit of an infinate loop. People will view the ones on the front page more often, and thus the top 5 will stay on the front and the others won't get much of a chance. But i like the idea-perhaps we could use the rating system to a similar effect.

I have the front page bookmarked, however I never read it because it never gets updated! If it could be updated daily or even weekly that would be really good!

I know, I know.
I'm sorry, guys. The front page updates really are mostly my responsibility, and I've been dropping the ball. I have my reasons why, but I do owe you more updates. I'll have some neat stuff coming soon, so thanks for being patient, and please keep checking.

I like that idea, but it's unfortunately not a safe thing to do. It would require creating new fields in the current databases while could have serious knock on effects on the forums and the front page. It's not worth the risk at the moment. I'll look into it though.

You could make a really cool php site that incorperates the forums into the main site.
I've had "some" experience with Mambo Portal. Its probably worth a look. You can 'move' your current database tables to mambo and the forum will keep all the posts and users.
Just a sugjestion. Its hella easy to administrate. You could allow sertin people privlages for writing articles and such. There are tonns of add-ons.

I'm not sure we want to go down that road, but i'm taking a look at the software anyway to see what you mean. I assume you'd prefer to have an interface like the ones Mambo offers?
