I'd like to nab the fan inside of this unit, but I honestly don't know what I'm in store for as far as circuitboard components go. Is there anything that might zap/kill/blind me? It's just a stock Chrysler deck with stereo am/fm and CD.

I appreciate any advice. :)

Well, I would be sure to stay away from the invisible laser beam radition as stated on the warning :D.
Other than that, I don't see anything wrong with grabbing the fan, couldn't be much worse than taking apart a computer, or at the very worst taking apart a PSU, neither of which are too dangerous if you are CAREFUL.
So, just think things through while you're doing it and don't touch anything that isn't necessary to touch to get the fan out.

I actually got too anxious while waiting for advice and immediately grabbed my screwdriver. Popped her open and snagged the 40mm fan inside. I can't wait to find an extremely pointless task for this baby.

Sorry to say I'm not. This deck came out of my sedan that was rear ended a while back. :(

This is what I replaced the old deck with...

Woah. This little guy pushes quite a bit of air at 12v, it almost feels like more air than most of my 80mm fans. At 7v, it gives a healthy breeze that's almost silent. Can't decide what to do with the bugger though. On a side note, I find ripping things apart to be very entertaining. It's too bad I can't get paid for it.
