I've been seeing some great work from all of you guys out there and though im not actively modding anything right now I would like to show my idea that i wonder why i havent seen it done before. especially because if you have a massive cooler like this: http://www.xbitlabs.com/misc/picture/?src=/images/coolers/5-cool/p53.jpg&1=1 then the airflow is straight.
since i dont know how to put pics into the text I'll give a link to my design: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n118/xdxforever/PCconcept.jpg
There are some obvious things left out like a fan to provide flow for everything else, but that could be created from the side and top. I might build something like this design someday, but not soon. (The perspective on my pic is a little strange but i think it gives the idea.)

You will still need ariflow through the case for the video card and the HDD can get suprisling hot as well. Your case I guess would be good for overclock cooling.

If you look at how a mobo is layed out and you compare it to your design and the way you have orientated the mobo you Video and PCI cards will be where the duct is. so you need to swap the postion of the CPU and the duct and the optical drives so the vga ports and pci ports will be out the back of this case.

So it looks like this

I just flipped the image to give you an idea of what I mean.

If you could on the other hand find a mobo that was layed out like you imanged then go for it.

depending on what mobo you use, this could be an absolute ****.... There are cases where they've added a airflow cylinder from an outside fan to around abouts where the heatsync is, I've seen this on a side panel on a stock high end Intel computer, I'm sure if you browse case sites you will find one...

My current case has a side panel with two fan mounting holes, one onto where the CPU fits, and another 120/80mm mount for Graphics card / PCI's etc...

Then again with good airflow you wouldnt need any air-guides... I wish I knew more about physics but I read somewhere it says its best to have 1-1 for input/output, I really wanna make an optimum airflow case for my main box, but frankly i'm too unexperienced + lazy...

are you talking like an airscoop or something? cos the 360 has one, and its fairly simply.

personally, i think on the one hand, its good cos you can direct the air, but on the other, some minor components, such as capacitors, and non-heatsinked chips, dont get the cooling they need.

that just gave me a cool idea: put a bunch of fans in four places (in an x formation) and then run an airscoop from each one, into a standard cpu heatsink, and then put an escape scoop up to the top of the case. you could have little vents on the intake scoops that run over components that need the cooling, and they just dissipate naturally out the top of the case. cos heat rises, so you wouldnt really need a blower (it might help though) to get rid of the heat.

EDIT: actually, that wouldnt work, cos you would only really be able to get 1 access point for the fans, because the mobo would prolly cover all the other areas. although you could put the intakes on the side. ill look into this for my case :P

Its a great idea, I think. Good structure. Just if you implement this idea, have another fan to the side to cool the HDDs, video, etc., and use high-output fans (dont bother with an exhaust fan, just use an intake and that should work for the CPU tube idea)
