I got hit by some inspiration while at the China Buffet yesterday when I saw that their glass dividers had images in them that looked frosty. Not like the "Christmas window snow in a can" stuff, but kind-of a frosty translucent/opaque color.

Is there a simple way to get this effect? Or does anyone understand what I'm talking about..

Something like a frosted window film might work

Etching was my first idea. But I have serious doubt that those were etched. Feeling over the pane, I could feel that the frosted part felt like it was laid on top of the window(instead of engraved in). Plus the images were very solid, and I although I really don't know much about etching, I don't think those images were possible by etching.

Mach, I don't think I've ever seen that stuff before, which is reason enough for me to try it:) Have you personally had any experience with the stuff?

Edit: Nevermind guys, I just learned about laser etching and am trying to find a place where I can get it done. It's new to me and it might be new to some others, so here's a link that shows what it can do:

Also if you want to, There is a paint that gives a fosted Look. Typically in the stain glass section in the hobbie stores (Hobby Lobby).

I'll add to my previous post.

Those windows are acid etched. You can buy that acid paste stuff anywhere heck they have it in Wal*Mart.

Not sure what it will do to acrylic or Plexiglas.
