Anyone got any great ideas for modding a Apple Mac G3 Blue and White? I may or may not be getting my hands on a case at the end of this week. I think the hardware is all broken, so I may put a PC mobo etc in there instead. But that still leaves the outside to mod. Maybe I'll stick a basic paint job on it as they aren't bad looking cases to start with. Shame about the poor cooling, the only exhaust fan is from the power supply.

Umm.. the cooling is awesome in that thing. I have the same case. There is supposed to be a really big fan across from the motherboard, maybe it got removed from yours.

You might be right now I look again... I was just expecting a rear exhaust fan. Whoops.

I got the mac, and as I had a week off I tried to mod it. After reading some stuff on macmod.com I thought I could make the side panel transparent with some alcohol. Well, you can, but only on the ones which are painted. The one I have the plastic is semi opaque.... I fI had managed to make it transparent I'd have painted the side panel in yellow and blue, similar to the Renault Formula 1 car. Inside I'd have made everything really shiney and Formulaoneish, with carbon fibre and stuff like that.

I had also hoped to put some PC parts in and rip out the mac based stuff, but I don't have any spare PC parts at the moment so should have thought it through more.

The mac is now back in its original condition (bar the internal wiring which I could never get as neat as Apple do it). And I had 10 screws left over. What a waste of 2 days.

OMG HERESY. Macs belong in macs. Pcs belong in pcs.

i thought that was the g4 case anyway? cos i saw a guy blow a mac g4 up, and it looked just like that.

G3s and G4s have the same case (unless you're referring to pop starlets G4, the Welsh Singing sensation who shot to fame on ITVs X Factor, who look nothing the same. http://www.g4site.com/

LOL, I dont even want to know how you found that link. I've seen a G5 case refered to as a G4. Maybe they just stick whatever they've got in whatever case happens to be laying around. You just cant be sure with Apple...

I'm going to put a PC into a G5 case. Nothing will fit correctly, everything must be modded!

i was gonna do that, but i got outbid. it would have been a sweet mod, but it would have taken forever to keep it true to the mac style. cos for starters, you'd have to rip the backplate off and replace it.

id rather have one of the new g5 cases, cos they've got dual dvd bays, and four hard drive bays.
