Has anyone ever thought of stripping out an old Apple IIGS (http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=71) and putting in decent parts? My thinking was to put a properly sized LCD monitor in the top, along with power supply and hard drives. Then, place only the motherboard in the bottom. All CD drives would be external, and the LCD would not be the main screen. It would serve some unknown function, as of now. In addition, I was thinking about gutting an optical mouse and attempting to fit in into the original mouse. Then, when I get annoyed enough at it, pull out a real mouse and plug that in. Finally, rewire, or something, the original keyboard to make it usable in Windows and Ubuntu. The main goal of the project is to keep everything looking stock until it is switched on, when the OS will not match at all. It would be interesting to even further the mod and attempt to gut one of the old 5.25" floppys and installing a slot-loading cd drive. If I ever get the money, and the time, and the motivation (in about three years) I might do it. In the mean time, best of luck if anyone wants to do it.

I've seen a few attempts to do such a thing like that... But I cant seem to remember any finished ones? It makes a nice "sleeper" mod though. People are like.. "uh, wow. Your so lame". And then you run some programs comparing yours against theirs... and they cant even begin to compare to you. This all of course is if you have nice equipment inside. But I like the idea in any case. I would give it some sweet rockin paint job though... like Purple Pearlescent with some cool grapics placed here and there. :p

That would be an awesome sleeper system. It would be cool if you could get a monitor from one and strip out the screen and replace it with an lcd monitor
