hi guys. i thought i would start a thread about some of the not so plesent accidents that have maybe happend to some of us. perhaps a short description of what happend and why.

let me kick this off

i used to work for an arcade. we used to resolder things on the arcade machines and laser tag suits all the time. one time i was soldering something (im right handed btw) and the right side of my face got itchy or something. so naturaly i passed the hot soldering iron to my left hand. the problem here is that i passed it end to end. that is to say i grabbed the hot part with my entire left hand. not so fun. obviously i wasnt concentrating on the dangers of what i was working with.

OUCH! That would of smart!

Hmmm, Well the only one I can think of at the moment was when my friend and I were speeding down his gravel road which is at a constant angle. Gravel + Increase of Speed + Constant Turning = knocking down half of his fathers electric fence. Did I mention his parents were home at the time? I dont think I have ever laughed so hard and at the same time been so scared of his dad finding out of something that we did in my entire life. How is parents didnt find out I have no freaking clue.... but thank whatever god there may be that he had extra fence posts. Since all the ones we hit were bent over and flatened.

Oh and just in case this happens to you... make sure you turn the fence off first. Just in case. I guess it wasnt on when we were working on it.. but the thought of forgetting something like that gave me the gitters.

i remember back when i was about 12. me and a friend were very into lighting things on fire, and making things go boom.

we found a can of paint sealer that had one of those explosive warning signs on it. seemed like a good idea at the time, but of course looking back... i should have known what would happen next.

we took it out into the alley by my house, and started spraying a fence down lightly and lighting it. it made an awesome blue flame that only lasted a couple seconds. we were doing designs and all sorts of neat things... even making those traffic cones explode and jump off the ground (my brother was into stealing anything he could get his hands on from construction sites).

anyways... we got stupid, and i wasnt paying attention while spraying a bunch of dry leaves down. i ended up spraying way too much (too much is still an understatement).

next thing i know, my friend lit it, and there was light and heat everywhere, and i remember the distinct feeling of breathing in suddenly and a burning sensation in my chest.

my brother was watching this, and apparently we got completely engulfed in a fireball that hit the bottom of a chestnut tree we were under. we measured it after and found that this meant a 12 foot hight wall of flames... and probably about 10 feet wide too.

after the initial shock wore off... we started checking for damage. the property was fine, but we werent. everyone had no eyebrows, eyelashes, arm hair, leg hair, and about half an inch of hair was missing off our heads too (about three rounds of shampoo hid that though).

in the confusion, it seems i spun around fast enough to open my knee up real good on a nail. a very clean cut that was about two inches long, and about a centimeter deep. of course, i couldnt let my parents find out, so i cleaned it myself, and did my own stitches.

ive still got a scar, and no feeling on the front of my leg below that cut... and my parents still dont know the real story.

those were the days......

When we remodelled our last house, we had a few switches that weren't in their proper housing. Little did I know, they hadn'd been shut off. I ended up touching the positive terminal on one of them and getting a pretty bad shock.

Another shock story:

I used to disassemble things, so one day i disassembled a disposable camera. i poked around in there with my left pinky finger until i just happened to poke the capacitor terminals (doh) and now my left pinky finger, in the very tip, is completely numb, but i can still move it just fine.

Other thing's i've done:

Step on a rusty nail, it went through my foot
Staple my finger
stab my thumb

that's all i can think of at the moment =/

I've had three concussions waterskiing, and one ruptured eardrum.

I've re-broken my toe 4 times now in the last 6 months.

I've stapled my finger twice, and stepped on a rusty nail.

I was getting picked up by a big burly friend of mine out of a lake after waterskiing. He lifted me up on to the dock and a potruding rusty screw went into my leg, ripping a 13 inch hole down on side.

In this cornfield near my house as a little kid I have....

- Been shot at
- Been chased by a quad
- Had "the dogs" set on me
- Almost gotten killed by one of those giant corncutters with the HUGE rotating blades.

I've fallen off a ladder twice, after getting pushed.

I've been stung 39 times in my life, whether by bees, hornets, yellowjackets, etc.

I've stabbed my thumb with scissors, as well as shattered my left thumb and fractured my right.

Meh. All I can think of at the moment.

I seated a CPU water block wrong and my computer wouldn't start. It wasn't oops like I burnt my skin off or stapled my face to something, it was oops like I spent 3 days agonizing over how I thought I had wasted $90 on a water cooling kit. Dragged my computer from place to place, testing it with other people's PSUs, CPUs, Mobos... In my last attempt before jumping off a bridge, I turned the block 90 degrees and the damn thing started right up.

My friend and I took one of those ?miracca? intruments, took the handle off, filled it with the inards of mortar shells and other firework supplies and then added some black powder to cap it off at the top (since we kind of ran out of fireworks) We then took it to my house, connected like four of those mortar ignition cords, lit it, and ran like our pants were on fire. It was pretty cool I guess, not as big as I wanted it to be with having a shell thicker than the ones you buy the mortars in. But still pretty cool, and very loud. It was kind of like a rainbow fireball from hell. The best part was still the sound though.. scared the bajezus out of my uncle.

Eh, sorry for the horrible grammer, etc. I'm not feeling that great right now so I am having a hard time concentrating.

I can pick up mortars in a 2-3 hour round trip if I really feel like driving south. Navigating through the woodlands of Pennsylvania can drive a man to murder his first born child.

You can get mortars in a lot of places.

We live in America, remember? We have a crazy hillbilly for a president. Where've you been for the last 6 years?! Fireworks make this country Amurikuh and not America. Just like our president wanted.

By far my worst oops was when I was dragged 100 yards behind a friend's truck. I was getting in and he sped off. I had the imprint from his trailer hitch imbedded in my head for 2 days.
The worst part was it was on gravel and anyone who has gotten a good case of road rash on gravel knows that little pieces of it get into everywhere. I had it all down the front of me including some places that are very uncomfortable.
The next day and for the next couple of years or so I was picking little chunks of rock out of my skin from my forearms to my shins.

The second worst was running from the cops, but I don't think I can go into that story here.

One of the harmless, but more embarrassing stories involves chugging some beast ice in the back of a pickup truck with a few friends standing around and not realizing that someone is walking right near the side when I turn my head to vomit. That was rather bad.

I've injured my back in 3 places, I've had a few concussions. I have a few bb's still somewhere in my right arm and left thigh.

I've passed out at a friends house while taking a whizz and woke up with a hole in my left leg deep enough to see the shin bone. I wrapped it in paper towels and continued to party on the couch.

Most of mine injuries come from normal things or are just part of daily life.
I've broken my left forearm playing football. Got to see both the bones.

It's called a marimba. They're rather expensive.

this is not somthing i talk about but here goes....
remember i said some time ago something about going fast on my bike,
well (now comes the secret part) after that i found out i could get my hands on some andrenaline, and a O2 tube, and some kind of neadle that you can strap to your arm(cant remember the name) from a dude that worked in a hospital.
so after i got the "supplys" the moding started: got my self a back pack to store the O2 tube, and i atached the needle to my left arm on a nice big green vein, not to far rom me is a nice bit of sweet asphalt, i got there opened the O2(the tube had a mask and about 2m of hose on it also) and started the run,you cant imagine what the O2 does to you...

first run: goes great

second run: i think to myself "lest test the adrenaline" so i go again, then a juice myself at halfway... it takes about 3 seconds to feal it, and then whaaam it hits you like a sledge hamer, your feet get a minde of their own, i did 100-105 km/h for about a minut, after that it fades off

third run(yes, there is a third run): i still got some juice from the first run so...(you know whats next), of i go again, i go up to 80km/h with the O2, then i put the rest of the juice in(i almost lost it tryng to pres the plunger), but this time something goes bad and i succeed in bracking the chain, and i gave a big kiss to the black top...

now looking back on it i cant imagine how the hell did i not had a heart-atack,
or something
its scary to think what goes on in the mind of an 14 year kid

so kids dont overclock your a$$ you void the warranty for it

Jeez I am almost afraid to post since none of my injuries were that bad...

Computer related:
Just got my second _real_ job after getting out of the navy and decided to buy myself a really nice watch to go along with the nice clothes I was supposed to wear to work. Put down over $300 on a nice Seiko dress watch. Wore it to work and had to do some maintenance on a Storage Tek tape drive (the ones with the big 10" spools). Reached in to adjust one of the pnumatic valves and my watch touched one of the high voltage coils controlling a motor. There was 240v across my new watch into the frame of the tape drive and through my wrist. There was a very bright flash and when I pulled my arm out of the back of the drive, there was only about an inch left of the wrist band (stuck to my wrist) and the rest of the watch was welded to the inside of the frame, right where it touched. That was the last time I paid more than $30 for a watch...

Airbozo just demonstrated why you don't wear your metal watch to work in IT.
Plastic is a much better option.

As for GT40, yea, that was straight up dumb. You get the wrong mix of O2 in you, and blackout time. Wrong mix of adrenaline and you can cause a slew of problems including muscle spasms, heart failure, nervous system failure, and stroke. Learn what you're putting in your body before you do it, it might save your life.

Those aren't the kind of things you play with and definitely not while you're on a bike. Most of us don't talk about our stupid mistakes.

Thanks Dave, but most of my injuries are rather normal. Working in a shop and working on computers have given me more injuries than anything else I've done. Maybe not as bad or as large, but much more common.

I guess I can tell the running from the cops story. Back when I was still in school I used to phreak. Nothing major, mostly for fun and knowledge. Well, apparently someone at a nursing home saw me behind some businesses and called the cops. My town was fairly small and cars and people weren't in this area often at night. Well, as I was behind the business doing something I noticed headlights and a searchlight. Ding! Time to go. The business was a little strip mall with a creek running behind it, so I booked it until I could find a
place to enter the creek without disturbing the underbrush much. I ran down the creekbed, under a couple of bridges and into a neighborhood. I hit behind a house for sale for about an hour or so. I only saw 1 cop car pass once. From there, I walked home and called it a night.

the rest is hard to tell because i cant figure out the names :|

ps: what is a barbell ?

well i can pres 260 kg with my legs

My one freaky ability is, as weedy as i look, i have legs that can push up to 400kg. Obviously i can't get a lot of reps in there, at most, 3. But under that scale...i can push say, 350kg for 10, and proportionally downwards.

It comes from cycling everywhere since you're a little urchin. I'm known in my Karate Dojo for having "quite a kick".

I have a story, but i'll take photos first. When i find the time.

lol my legs do the same well not 400kg, dunno what actually but im just plain lazy its cus i bike evrywhere usually loose people if im going far cus i dont loose breath tthat quick riding... running though that kills me im just odd...

i cant thinkof many bad things although one time i was riding my bike doing the 'viking challenge' bike ride a long 50mile ride up and downhill rock messy painful, but lots of chocolate cake ;) anyway i was going down a steep slope with rocks poking out everywhere now as a result of my dad owning abike shop he rides alot in mountains he also has a few friends who do downhill mountain biking so they wiz down the hill, one falls off. but that didnt stop me so i lean back so i don't go head over heels, and im going fine half the jill done, getting bumpier but flattening out the speed thing told me i was doing 35MPH pretty damn quick on a bike, so a little further abour 3/4 done i hit a rock at around 15-20MPH *bang* it flies up taking out a few spokes in my front wheel whhich then stops moving - the disk brakes locked -i fly head over heels, landing on some painfull rocks and the bike lands on top of me, so i have a pretty large cut in my arm and a few smaller ones on my back and 8 miles left to go before we finish but i have to ride back! by the time i got to the car i was sort of tired- i apparently passed out -, ended up loosing quite a bit of blood and a few stiches in my arm, also lost two teeth that hurt, still ive done it nearly every year since then :)

I'm the same.

out a few spokes in my front wheel whhich then stops moving - the disk brakes locked

It was probably the brakes which caused the damage to your wheel. On a car, where the brakes are only just smaller than the wheel, and the wheel has a smaller diameter, it's fine-but disc brakes on a bike are dangerous compared to caliper brakes. I've seen a lot of people with damaged wheels just because of disc brakes. Have a look on google, you're sure to find some horror stories.
