Rankenphile and I updated the forums sucessfully last night. With some luck, this will help us to not only reduce SPAM but to give you all great new features to play with on the boards.

We haven't had a chance to fully test this new software yet, which is where you come in. If you notice anything out of place, or something that doesn't seem right, report it in this thread and we'll get right on top of it.

Hope you all like the new features and updates!

-DaveW and Rankenphile

Was this always here? "Your message is a duplicate post, you will be redirected..."

a.Bird

Yeah something is screwy. I press "Submit Reply" and I am redirected to the same "Reply to Thread", only my message really did go through as I'm scrollig down the page, and I now have to wait 30 seconds to post again.

Sweet! 3.6.2! I immediately noticed that the forums look different. What kind of new, cool features can we expect?

Woah. I just experienced the same problem as a.Bird.

I hit "Post Quick Reply" and was redirected to the advanced reply page, and it told me:

"The following errors occurred when this message was submitted:

1. This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between posts. Please try again in 29 seconds."

However, my post had showed up on the forums.

We need some time to configure the options and variables. Please realize that when forum is updated, it defaults ALL the settings..we have to go through one by one and reset it all. Thanks for the patience, mod fans.

Of course, happy to help. Great job with all your hard work, btw. I almost feel guilty with a free membership for such quality services and a wonderful community to boot. Cheers.

Damn it, I knew we should have started charging for this!

I kid, I kid. Thanks for the updates, guys, please let us know if you encounter anything else out of place.

One thing we have already noticed is that new registration is down, we should have it back up in a day or so (we need sleep, too!).

I've just slept in by 3 hours-my alarm didn't go off. Yet somehow, i had to check the forums, and make sure everything was still here ;)

Umm i had a thread in "the light switch" section or whatever it's called... where did it go?

I just noticed that the "mark as read" button is gone or moved.

DaveW
10-09-2006, 05:07 PM
what was the name of the thread?

the mark as read button...i can't remember where that was to be honest, i don't think i ever used it...

Keep this stuff coming guys, a lot has changed-not all of it visible.

Due to the upgrade, we've lost some of the original formatting: most notably, the user profiles and the rounded silver boxes that used to surround posts.

Although i can restore these, it's quite a lot of work, and it might be easier to improve the appearance of the current template than try and get the old ones to work with the (much, much) newer system.

What do you guys think? Are you going to miss the silver post boxes, or the old profile layout? Let me know in this thread.

You can also PM me if you like.

I've taken a bold step and become the first person to add a 'call me through skype' button to my profile. Don't abuse it, but feel free to give me a call. Good luck understanding my accent if you're not Scottish.

Not going to miss the silver box and go for the new profile layout, change is good.

My favorite accent is the scottish or gaelic drawl. While hitchhiking down through the loch's we stopped at a bar right next to one of the loch's (not sure which one) and ordered cider. When we walked in a group of old men gave us some guff for being american and when we ordered cider they asked us to sit down and chat. It took me most of the rest of the day to understand even 20% of what they were saying... OR maybe it was the cider. The more I had the clearer they spoke...

(sorry, back on topic now...)

If you find a thread missing, search for it. My NES PC topic disappeared, but was there when I searched for it. I just posted again and it was back. I think it had something to do with how much time had passed since the last post.

I was a little disoriented with the new icons, but I got used to them pretty fast.

I had that problem too but I fixed it: go to the bottom of the forums and somewhere around there is a option to change the range of posts shown. By default it only shows like stuff in the last month or something like that.

Hope that helps a little.

Some of the older posts may be showing up, for exactly the reason Indybird mentioned. You have to change some of your settings - it looks like it set some of them back to default.

I've fixed the icons to our good-old custom ones.

Thanks for the bug reports so far, we're doing what we can to keep up with them. Please continue to let us know if you notice anything.

This isnt a problem, but rather a question.. what does the multi quote button do?

Rankenphile
10-10-2006, 12:36 AM
If you click it, then quote another reply, it allows you to quote both of the replies in one easy response. It still doesn't allow for in-line multi-replies, however, which is something I will look into.

I found my thread and replied to it and it ending up being in "The Tool Box" instead "The Light Switch", where i had originally started it.

Weird.

Hmmm . . .this has gone terribly off topic.

No rush, but I would like to get this back on topic by saying that there is still no "mark as read button." I'm sure you guys will get to it at some point.

To be honest, it's not coming anytime soon. I'm too busy with other projects to impliment it right now, and they won't be complete for a couple of months. It's not a 'vital' part of the site, although you're saying it's annoying, it's not something vital to fix.

Remember that the new posts button works through the search program. You wouldn't want the search program to not return posts you've marked as read. It works by searching for posts of a specific age compared to your last sign in/visit-which explains why unread posts also dissapear.

In short, it's a lot of work for a small result that isn't on my priorities list at the moment...sorry guys!

Don't be discouraged from making other suggestions though!
