I had something yesterday that I just remember was really good.

Sausage wrapped in bacon wrapped in an egg omlette. Drizzled with maple syrup. Kind of reminds me of a finger or something. lol

YUM

take a hot dog bun, do an egg, over hard, and put it in the bun, put some butter on top, and some blueberry jam and ketchup. oh and dont forget to put salt and pepper on the egg too. then microwave it for a couple second to get it kind of moist. damn good, but it looks like a freaking mess. i figured that one out quite a few years ago when i was just recovering from a serious flu. i had a retarded craving, and that was the only thing i could think of.

1:1 ketchup and mustard tastes kind of like thousand islands dressing, and is a good nacho dip. i used to be king of made up nacho dips. another one is sour cream, onion, garlic, cayenne, parsley and/or cilantro, a bit of cumin, and if you're brave you can put in a bit of fire pepper or habanero to make things suicidally spicy. that ends up almost like a spicy garlic-ranch dip. and if you're feeling really adventurous, add in a tiny bit of horse raddish to give it a really odd but good flavour.

Refried beans, rotel, and salsa makes a good dip that doesn't involve cheese.

I eat oatmeal every day. There's a multitude of things to try in oatmeal because it gets really boring after a while.
A 1:1 ratio of honey/molasses in oatmeal is my favorite quick flavoring.
Peanuts, dates, raisins, dried peaches, dried apples, dried mango, banana slices.
All healthy, almost all add natural sweetner. Better than the store-bought crap.

I'm a huge fan of deer meat and eat it almost every week.

Something I eat while camping:
1 egg
1 piece of bread
Spreadable butter
Salt/Pepper to taste

Butter both sides of a piece of bread, bite a hole out of the middle. Place on skillet set for med heat, break egg into hole. Flip as needed. Add flavoring as desired.

Quick, easy, works great while walking.

Mix ketchup with Mayo. Put it on everything. It's great on chicken, burgers, and especially fries. A friend of mine told me that this is called russian dressing?

I put tobasco sauce on about everything I eat. It's especially good on eggs, in chili, with any soup, on any meat, and rice.

Peanutbutter and jelly with potato chips in the center was my favorite when I was a little kid. I usually add maple syrup or honey to my oatmeal if it's not already flavored.

Tybrenis, I put russian dressing on hamburgers and egg sandwiches, it's the shiznizo bam snip snap sack! Good stuff.

oh you know whats good? russian barbeque sauce!!! you take mayo again, but this time mix it with that hickory smoke barbeque sauce. its awesome on burgers.

another good thing is suicidal spiciness in rice dishes. i just made one for dinner. cook two cups of basmati rice with 3 cups of water in a pot. get it to a boil and then turn it down to about medium and cover it up until its done. while its cooking, chop up two onions and two bell peppers. put some oil in a pan, and cook the onions in it until they're soft. then add a 28oz can of crushed tomatoes, and one of those small tomato paste cans and add the peppers and even almonds if you want. once all thats done, you can add in some spicy peppers, i just used a whole habanero tonight and it was VERY painful. once the "sauce" is done... the rice should be done right around then. the rice takes 16 minutes once it boils. so then you put the rice into the pan with the sauce and mix it all up. its super good.... this recipe probably gets you a few pounds of food, and i can eat the whole damn thing i love it so much. you can probably get very creative... add cauliflower or meat or chick peas or potatoes... whatever you want really.

You can also substitute the peanut butter for Nutella if you like.

I'm gonna have to try that. I love oatmeal. ...and hot cereal. That is pretty good too!

Ooooh yeahhh! Deer meat is sooo good. I only get it every once and awhile but its a real treat to have for sure.

Ha, and if you dry it out, it is about 300 times better than store bought jerkey.

Another thing I have had is Moose Rump Roast. Absolutely mouth watering.

Kangroo steaks are yummy cooked in red wine and with a nice glass of red wine to go with it.

We call deer meat venison here but I think that is just the fancy term for it.

nil8
10-22-2006, 09:40 AM
Venison can be used to reference young deer or all deer, and I try not to step on toes.

I've never had moose. Of the weirder meats I'm a fan of ostrich and bison.

Mayo is rather nasty IMO.
I've found that a 1:1 mix of worcestershire sauce and ketchup makes a good tangy sauce.
When I'm in the mood, chili mac is pretty good. Spaghetti noodles, chili, some of that sauce and shredded cheddar cheese works well and is quick and simple.

As for food posts, it's one of the few universal aspects of being human and it can be a social activity. The joy of biological functions.

Cold spaghetti sandwichs are good. mmmm. Also I just had Honey Nut Cherrios and instead of milk or SOY MILK (Which is so dang good) I used creamer that was pumpkin pie spice flavored. YUM

What is worcestershire sauce? lol I cant even pronounce that.

"it's one of the few universal aspects of being human and it can be a social activity. The joy of biological functions."

That sounded alot like something my sociology teacher would say. lol

How old are you nil8?

ooh also. What do you guys think about milk? I've heard its not good for you even though they advertise it as good for you. Or rather what they put in milk I guess.

ive read in a couple places that drinking it beyond the age of about 5 can eventually lead to lactose intolerance. i havent heard of any proof of this... but its something to think about. the biggest issue is that historically any animal isnt meant to drink milk any longer than infancy.

how about this though. a milkshake like no other. some chocolate syrup, a can of peaches.... or fresh ones if you want, a few scoops of ice cream, and about half a cup of whip cream. it turns out all light and fluffy and cold and chocolatty and peachy... and it kind of freezes into shape because of the whip cream. very awesome.

or whip cream on chocolate ice cream. it turns into a solid coating.

Haggis is actually quite good though, if you have the guts to try it. Although you can keep your neeps, thank you very much. I'll have mashed potaotes.

That was roughly translated there-neeps are a vegetable, and i can't remember what it's 'normal' name is. It might be turnip.

There is only one thing better than haggis... and that is Black and White puddin!

There is also some sort of potato cake thingy... that is really good too.

DaveW

Hell, don't go down black puddin' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_pudding) alley. That's worse than haggis is, although to be honest, most Scot's don't even know what's in it, and they're happy that way. It's not entirely a Scottish phenomenon, and has variants the world over.

Potato Cake? Do you mean tattie scones (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tattie_scone)?

ick... peanut butter and BACON??? im not a fan of bacon by any means. for one thing... its pretty fatty throughout. other than that... i cant explain why... i just dont like it.

now peanut butter and shake-n-bake chicken is alright. kind of a thai style... especially if you throw some soy sauce into the peanut butter and maybe a chilli pepper for some spice. if you havent noticed by now... im addicted to spicy stuff.

and um... im just leaving haggis alone. actually... no i wont. id be careful with that stuff. im no expert, but seems to me that it may be a good way to make yourself sick. we've seen how BSE can be transfered by eating beef (you dont want to know the precise details of how that happens). anything involving internal organs is way more likely to pass on diseases because theres a nasty habit for them to congregate in the liver, kindeys, heart, you name it actually. factor in that most of those diseases come from prions and viroids which are almost impossible to irradicate (you cant cook it and hope it kills it because its not even alive), and you are just asking for trouble. im just curious now that i think of it... are there a lot of people in scotland with diseases like hepatitis or jaundice?

<EDIT> you dont like turnip dave? i like it. its not all that great on its own, but if you mash it up and put some butter on it... killer. almost as good as mashed potatoes.

Any of you Americans heard of Irn-Bru (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irn-Bru) for that matter? Don't ask me what's in it, i don't know. It's hugely popular over here, but i prefer Coca-cola. Brewed and bottled less than 4 miles from my home, if you've ever seen any.

are there a lot of people in scotland with diseases like hepatitis or jaundice?

No, we're very resiliant to disease actually. Most Scottish people die from things like lung cancer, liver poisoning, etc. brought on by chain smoking and drinking. Then again, a great deal of us are murdered. Glasgow was, apparently, the murder capital of Europe last year-but the citizens of the city apparently, in a survey, voted the city "safest in Europe". Wacky.

it would make sense that irn-bru actually does contain iron in small amount, hence the ammonium ferric citrate. and ill bet that explains the "citrus" taste, and the colour too. good for people with anemia i suppose.

I'm 22. And potato cakes are really good.
I've never heard of Irn-Bru, but then again I don't search for drinks with heavy metals in them.

I love horseradish sauce. So good on a pork roast.

Worcestshire sauce: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worcestershire_Sauce
Lea & Parrins is by far the best out there.

Shepards Pie is really good.

I make a lot of stew because it's cheap and fast.

As for milk, I don't drink it. No need to. I drink soymilk on occasion.

Bacon & pineapple pizza is the only time I eat bacon.

Everyone should try saltpork and see why bacon is so popular. Saltpork lives up to its name.

Worcestshire sauce sounds pretty good!

We have a restraunt around here called "The White House" and it is strictly a garlic place. They have this garlic and onion soup and it is FANTASTIC!

Speaking of Garlic...

Has anyone ever tried garlic icecream? I dont know if you can buy it, but my friend makes it and loves it. I've never tried it though for obvious reasons lol. :dead:

EDIT:

Oooh.. also has anyone ever had Egg Nog? I just had some for the first time in like a year. I LOVE egg nog!

A fun thing to do with that is mix in peppermint. Mmm.. very festive!

I think I just discovered the best tasting sugar free home made candy ever... lol

Okay, so I was eating a bowl of cereal right? And I thought, hey, if I were to put some huckleberries (they were frozen) on top of this it would taste great! So I did. Then I poured french vanilla coffee creamer (lol we were out of soy milk) on top. Then a weird thing happened... the creamer FROZE on contact with the huckleberries! I didn't think they would do that, but anyways, so now I had white huckleberries lol. I picked one up, popped it in my mouth... AND IT WAS GOOD!!! I mean dang good! It was like candy... but without all the sugar and other stuff! So if you have frozen huckleberries, then I advise you try this at least once! or maybe even any other kind of berry?

The ultimate Beans on toast:
fry some good quality sausages (Porkinsons ftw!!)
and some good quality bacon (I get nice fatty organic bacon from a friend who's a farmer)
Cut cooked sausages and bacon up into bits
Heat baked beans with tomato and mushrooms
grate a load of chedder (a bit less than the amount of beans)
Chuck the bacon/sausage into the beans (remember to stir it or it will burn to the pan and try not to let it boil!
put bread in toaster and put it on!
Add cheese, and stir until it's all melted in.
Add a dash of balsamic vinigar, a dash of worcestershire sauce, and a dash of Tabasco (the hot red one, not the crappy mild green one)
Put on very low heat until the toast is done
4 peices of toast is enough for one can of beans. you must eat all 4 yourself r you suck. And it's strictly one can of beans per person: Any less and the 'ultimate' status is tainted!
Put the 4 peices of toast on a deep plate and try to makle them touch with no gaps in the middle!
Cover the toast in your cheesy beans
Season with ground black pepper
Tear up some basil leaves and chuck them on top (Basil is AWESOME)
Eat with a pint of icey coke!

Yum.
