Just grabbed this out of our scrap heap:

Wanted one of these for years. Quad pentium 3 xeon. sgi custom motherboard and graphics (built in to the mobo), Quite a story with this box sfrom sgi. Late to market, underpowered, but at the time was THE perfect video editing box since it hase built in video in and out 1394 ports and a host of other features. Too bad it only runs one specific version of windows NT. THere are 2 models and this is the large one (the other is 2xXeons). I think this box would make the perfect water cooled case with all the venting and room. My challenge would be to mount an atx mobo in it....

Not solid plans yet. I am in the middle of another mod right now (posting the log soon) so most of the creative juices are flowing into that mod. (still having some plexi issues to sort out).

I have eyed this case in the past with some ideas about creating windows and water cooling stuff. Nothing solid yet. I am open to ideas though.

Sounds cool. What plexi issues are you having? Having worked in acrylic shops and built plexi computers before, I can try and help if you'd like.

Well my biggest issue is trying to fit a plexi mobo plate and back i/o plate into a sphere. Using a cardboard template only gets me so far then I am having to wing it due to the thickness of the plexi. I also just found out that I can use my regular router bits on plexi so that will help in thinning out around the pci slot fillers and i/o plate so the cables are easier to plug in. i should be starting the log this weekend on TBCS. I am far along enough that I have lots of pics to post. I will ask for some help when I get the pics up so you can see what I am having issues with.

BTW there are a couple of these also in the pile, but are heavy so shipping would be a little costly;

That system is a 320, that only carries 2 procs. It is also about 3/4 of the size of the 540.
